BBB Serving Central SC and Charleston: Business of the Year Torch Award recipients honored

Recipients of the BBB Serving Central SC and Charleston's Business of the Year Torch Awards were named at a ceremony held on Wednesday, November 06, 2024, at Seawell’s. 

BBB Serving Central SC and Charleston presents the Business of the Year Torch Award each year to companies that exemplify ethical behavior and display integrity in all aspects of their operations.  The Torch Awards are open to all businesses in the Midlands and Lowcountry regions.  Nominees are offered the opportunity to submit an entry to the BBB, where a panel of judges from SCORE review the entries and choose the winners. SCORE aims to foster vibrant small business communities through mentoring and education.

The event brought together business owners, employees, and community leaders. The ceremony began with a performance of the National Anthem by Cherelle Turner, setting a patriotic tone. Comedian Glen Ward entertained attendees with impersonations and lighthearted humor. The evening’s highlight was the Keynote Address by Coach Paul Mainieri, USC's Head Baseball Coach, who shared insights on his dedication to fostering excellence, leadership, and integrity within his team and staff.

A special initiative was launched to provide scholarships to deserving students pursuing careers in the trade industry.  Dominion Energy, Fitts & Goodwin, Jim Hudson Automotive Group, Roof Boyz and the BBB collectively raised $3,000 towards scholarships for students at Midlands Technical College and Trident Technical College.
