Burnaby blacktop has been ignoring issues that were not rectified. They are not returning calls or messages as they feel this is out of warranty issue. I try to reach out and it takes a very long time for responses. I am told they will not cover warranty anymore based on time that has passed. The repairs they made did not stick. There is no new damage I am complaining about its all from initial install. Who pays for driveway knowing if there are issues they would not be addressed. One time they came to my house, did not inform me of arrival. Looked out the window to see someone put a crack repair over entire side of driveway without heating it as I googled how repair should take and it all fell in our cold snap. I have all e mails, photos and correspondence to show their lack of responding, poor repairs and simply not caring how a residence driveway should look. I have had them here for the exact same repairs all of them within warranty period and them not actually being fixed. Who wants patches in all of 6 spots on a new driveway. The install itself was a joke based on their drivers getting fined on my job with tickets for unsecured load. **** **** ****** ******* Its Ugly and when the issues started at the very beginning they should have redone job and we would not be where we are today. No one wants to spend that money to beautify our house with a new driveway to have patches crack and pieces falling off. I get the warranty for the new stuff but my complaints were never rectified. The duration of time moves along as I get put off with them double booking jobs and moving my dates along, weather, lack of staff or them doing the bigger jobs. No one has ever cared. I ask for some help as I am out the money for the beautiful driveway I had hoped for. Its literally falling off the sides. Again all damage from install dates e mails, photos and texts as proof. PS: I have more photos than can be loaded so I simply picked the one that best shows the damage they wish to leave me with. It is falling apart everywhere Much thanks.Business response

The driveway we are talking about was installed many years ago. We have responded to do maintenance and repairs (all at no cost to the customer) for 6 years now. No paving company offers a 6 year warranty, and after all we have done we hear back that none of the work was correct, or done correctly. We cannot offer unconditional lifetime warranties, it's unreasonable.Customer response

The photos above are e mails sent in regards to issues one of them is from 2018 still unresolved also poor technique used in regards to crack filler they used person smacked down crack filler as if he was working on a city street it never took cracks and fill spots everywhere we still cannot put our motorcycle on its kickstand without using a board as bike will fall supper soft application work was a joke from the beginning all the warranty they attempted never. I still have e mails and more photos the system would not allow for more

I am rejecting this response because:i feel the company is simply being a ****** I would have appreciated repairs if they were don correctly. The company takes time to return messages or book appointments which made time move on. I am not asking for the repairs that are not owed to me. The damage is from the initial instal date. Such poor workmanship. No one wants a brand new driveway to come with patches and cracks. I had no choice but to accept this. When yje entire side of the driveway breaks off almost immediately you make some noise until its fixed. The company claims so much time had past it was more to do with Covid,weather and lack interest in making it right. I was told my neighbours trees were the issue so I managed to get my neighbour to cut down 1/2 a dozen trees. The sloop into my house which they did not take into consideration flooded my foyer. The patches that kept needing attention as the kickstand from my motorcycle aways needs a board, if you want to put anything on the driveway be prepared for it to sink. All I wanted was that shoulder secured. It looks terrible but I was willing to live with it. Its the lack of attention to old damage versus new. Pictures if necessary.

I will consider a 1.5"-2" overlay of the existing pavement. We would remove the broken rectangular portion to the left side of the driveway, mill/grind a portion near the doorway to establish a suitable joint and overlay the entire driveway. I will not include a warranty for this new work- it will be a one-time deal. Let me know if this is acceptable to you.Customer response

Hired BBT July to remove + repour cement around duplex after the installation of à perimeter drain. We also purchased a service for them to strip + reseal driveway. Mike C**** + his crew did not protect the house, fences a + plants ahead of time. They came to wash with weak power washer + took off some paint of the side of my house. The mess is still on the side of the house + doors of the property. We asked BBT to send someone to clean 3 times + its still messy. My wife spent hours cleaning glass doors, railings. Most the cement poured on the N. side slopes toward the house. It was not troweled properly + stress lines are sloppy and blocked, + the texture is all discolored. Against our wishes, Mike poured white cement all around the property, when we wanted colour. The W. side patio was poured in oversized 20ft x 19ft slabs (2). In December, one of them split in two. IN many places around the home, he did not take the time to make stress lines. The same at the south front door. They placed a stress line right in the middle of the door way - which pulled rain water to the home. They put a temporary patch in the fall. The driveway refinishing was ruined. Against our wishes, Mike covered the whole thing in Black. He did not properly strip the driveway + used low power washer. S. Sprotson sold us on that Mike would do a good job of preparing the surface + matching the colour (slate blue). We were deeplymislead. The driveway is peeling, has roller marks, bubbles, trapped dirt + black drips. Mike’s crew left litter, cigarette butts, brought a dog on site + openly mocked us when we expressed our displeasure. They washed their cement tools in the gardens around the property. Our tenant noticed gas missing from his jerry cans, after Mike’s men asked for gas 2 times and I told them no. Mike ******** w lien.BBT initially put Frank Sohn in charge to makefixes,for May 9. No scope of Work ever sent to us. Now they say they will send Mike back. The client has concerns about the job, understandably, because like many jobs there are flaws or nonconformance's to be addressed. It has been a harrowing time for the client, who wished the process to go more smoothly. We must understand that no matter how much pressure is applied to a system, the system itself determines the outcome, and that takes time. Now is the season in which work can finally commence (after winter) and it is expedient to begin. The client must accept that the original worker/crew has the protected right to make the job right for the client, and they wish to do so. This is important: Mike is qualified, and can complete the job sufficient to the client's needs. The stamped drive, will be completely stripped and refurbished by another party (**** ****). We are asking for the client's approval to the process so we can have a formal inspection by Mike in the presence of Alain and family with Adrian A*****/Mike C****/Kevin B****** on Friday May 6th if possible.Customer response

Again, we cancelled all our family plans for tonight to have BB notify us this morning that Adrian and Mike cannot come, and it will be postponed.Work is supposed to start on Monday and we have been waiting 10 months after repeatedly requesting scope of work and lien to be removed from our house. We have have far too many disruptions and cancellations on BB’s part. Work was supposed to be ready to go on May 2nd and BB had several weeks of meetings to at least plan a visit and communicate with us earlier.

I am rejecting this response because:We hired Burnaby Blacktop and not a third party, their subcontractor Mike. The subcontractor did an unacceptable job and we are left with uneven, unsightly work that was not done to professional and structural standards. Most parts need to be redone.
When Mike and his crew first did the unacceptable work, it was agreed upon that Frank would complete the job. We were promised that Mike would cease all contact with us, after he lied about putting a lien on our house. Futhermore, gas from our tenant's jerry cans were stolen by the crew, after we told them twice that they could take it.
It is therefore unfathomable that Burnaby Blacktop keeps on insisting now since end of April, that we allow Mike onto our property. Services from Burnaby Blacktop were completely misrepresentative of the agreed upon contract.
I sent a cancellation of contract letter to Burnaby Blacktop on May 14th, 2022. All restoration and repairs , including damages done to the siding and doors of the home, will be done by another company. Any money that I still owe to Burnaby Blacktop as of the date of cancellation, May 14th, 2022 will be used to pay for this work. Should the work cost more, I will look to claim the difference from Burnaby BlackTop.

The driveway to our garage has a grading problem. Every time we drive into the garage, the front of the car will scrape the driveway. We contacted Burnaby Blacktop Ltd. We drove the car back and forth a few times for Chris to make the assessment. Chris explained to us that there are two ways to repave the driveway. One easier and cheaper way is to just pour another layer of asphalt on top of the existing one. But to fix our problem, they will need to dig out the existing driveway and redo it completely. We said we will go with option 2 because the reason we want to redo the driveway is to fix the grounding issue. He quoted us at $3465. In the contract, it specifies that it is to “re-grade driveway to address grounding out by car when parking.” We paid the deposit (50%) which is $1732.5. They repaved the driveway and ask us to wait 2 days to try the new driveway. On day 3, I tested the driveway. The car still scrapes the driveway exactly as before. If we knew the result was like this, we didn’t need to repave the driveway. We sent burnabyblacktop an email including photos. Another gentleman showed up at our front door ask to see our driveway. We drove our car and showed the grounding. He said he will get back to us. Chris called back. We explained that during the quoting process it was promised to us that the grounding issue will be fixed that’s why we decided to repave. We do not think we need to pay the full price since they did not fix the problem at all. Chris suggested us to pay another $2000 dollars so that they can redo it again with a French drain. We do not want to take the risk again with such amount of money. Chris said we still need to pay the full $3465 otherwise he will send our bill to a collection company. To be honest I don't think I owe them anything.Business response

Hi BBB, and Hi to *** as well. Happy New Year. I understand how important our clients driveways are to them, being an actual extension of their home. We did try to rectify a grading issue at ***'s house and were not successful the first time. Burnaby Blacktop Ltd will return at no cost to the client and remove a portion of the newly constructed driveway, install a trench or strip drain, and then pave back. We are confident of attaining a positive outcome, giving the client a safe and comfortable passage into their garage.Customer response
