On February 21, 2023 I called JJ's Kitchen and spoke to the manager (Rambod) about hosting my birthday for 20-30 people. I was told that there was another large party there the same night I requested (March 4th) and in order to secure my spot for the reservation I needed to send a $500, refundable deposit. Considering my friend held her birthday at JJ's on November 5th, 2022 and was not asked for a deposit, I inquired why this was necessary and was told that people cancelled last minute in the past, but again that I would receive the amount back upon attending the dinner. Rambod (manager) texted me and sent the other manager's (Julia) number and asked I send the e-transfer to her. I called Julia, reconfirmed all the details about the refundable deposit and made another inquiry to be safe. She informed me that I had two options, to either have the $500 put toward the group bill at the end of the night OR get the amount sent back to me. Since it was my birthday, I asked that it be sent back to me and that guests would pay for their own meals. She agreed, and I sent the deposit. A few days after my birthday, I had not received the $500 back and as a student that is a large sum of money to me. Upon getting a call from Julia, I was denied the refund of my money for the reason: "we lost customers because of you when you did not allow another party to be seated on the patio beside your table." We were guaranteed the patio to ourselves (as we were in November [my first time at the restaurant] for the other friends bday and hence me choosing JJ's for my own bday even though it was quite far and inconvenient otherwise). Upon me asking them not to seat another random group of people alone with 25-27 guests, they then removed the empty table from the patio and took it inside where the other customers then ate. Upon denial from one manager, I contacted Rambod again. He also denied ever offering the $500 back! I have text receipts that I have attached to this case with more info.Business response

Thank you for taking the time to speak with me today, this is Rambod the general manager at JJ's Kitchen
as i mentioned to you over the phone and i am now putting it in writing, we have told the party that the $500 is the booking fee for one of the salons of our restaurant entirely. and in my absence the acting GM told them that the only way it is financially feasible for our establishment to refund her a credit is with the minimum spending of $2500
however unfortunately the spending was a minuscule 1300 and therefore according to our policy we will not be issuing a refund
