Absolutely horrible service - I would never recommend Generator Tech. I had my generator installed by an electrician who then stopped servicing generators but transferred my account to Generator Tech. A year or so later, the Automatic Transfer Switch (***) for my generator mal-functioned but Generator Tech would not service it because they were too busy installing new generators and that was much more lucrative for their bottom line. Months of ************** calls back and forth with the owner, where he kept telling me that he "hadn't forgot about me" were to no avail. When it came time for the annual maintenance (oil change), they did send someone but instead of someone who could also fix the **** they sent a couple of guys who could not even look at the **** let alone service it. Again, a simple cash grab of easy maintenance money. I finally gave up and found another electrician who has able to fix the *** in an hour's work. Generator Tech has no interest in actually providing any follow-up service, other than simple oil changes.Generator Tech Ottawa Inc. Response

The manufacturer of this customers generator, ( Champion) asked us to replace the customer fuse inside the transfer switch from a 1 am fuse which was CSA approved to a 6 or 7 amp fuse so it would no longer blow. Doing this means his transfer switch is no longer CSA approved as it was not approved and if his transfer switch caught on fire we would be held responsible for the damage. For this reason we told the customer to reach out to the manufacturer and or his electrician to see if they were willing to take on this responsibility.Generator Tech Ottawa Inc. Response

At no point did Generator Tech come to my house to inspect the **** nor did they ever convey to me that the fuse might need to be replaced from 1A to 6a or 7A. I'm not sure how they could make this determination without ever having examined the *** in the first place.Review from D. S.

*************************, who owns Generator Tech ******, installed my first Kohler 20 RESC generator in September 2021. I had the generator installed because I wanted security and reliability in the context of frequent power outages. The first generator never worked. It took seven months for *** to replace this generator with a new one and only after I took my case directly to ******. The second generator had its first test during the May 2022 multi-day power outage. It worked for two days and then failed. Despite repeated efforts to get *** to diagnose the problem with my second generator, I received only one visit from his son at 1 a.m. and no report. *** has refused to diagnose my generator, failed to show up for an appointment, treated me with disrespect and rudeness, and repeatedly hung up on me when *** managed to reach him. With the clock ticking on the warranty, I was left with a second non-functioning generator and an installer who makes money from installation and repeatedly refuses to even diagnose a broken generator that he installed. I had to find a legitimate ************** representative whose offices were 4 hours away to finally diagnose and replace a defective motor on my second generator in January 2023! It is notable that Generator Tech is not a member of the ****Generator Tech Ottawa Inc. Response

Good afternoon Diava. As discussed when we replaced the first generator we installed for you, we do not make the product and have to follow the warranty protocols that the manufacturer has. We got your generator replaced and during the installation of the second generator we realized that you had installed a new 25KW Electrical furnace inside your house and never notified us. You did know that the generator capacity was a 20KW and was enough for your baseboard heating. If you had told us that you installed this furnace we would have installed a furnace disconnect right away so you would not have damaged the first unit. This was not an issue with a defective generator. The issue was created by yourself by not making us aware of your power consumption change. The second generator was supposed to be left in the off position until the issue with your furnace could be rectified. You never called us to let us know that you were good with the electrician to proceed to install the disconnect until you obviously put the generator back in automatic and caused issues with the second one. We have to follow protocol with the warranty from the manufacturer and they would not warranty the second unit knowing what caused the first one to fail. This should have ultimately cost you all the labour and the new unit and at the end of the day you got lucky to get the second unit paid for by ******.Generator Tech Ottawa Inc. Response

You do not address the central issue - that you ghosted me as a customer after I repeatedly tried to contact you and have been completely negligent in providing service to some one who paid a large amount of money to you as installer of my Kohler generator. I was only able to get the first defective generator replaced through contacting Kohler directly, as you continued to delay and dither. As for the second generator, it did not fail because it was overloaded by my furnace. First, I shut off my furnace before the generator was operational. Second, every knowledgeable person I have consulted has repeatedly assured me that the generator would simply shut off if there was any overload issue; it would not be damaged. (Again, this is a moot point because I had the furnace shut off when I operated this generator.) Third, all of this takes back seat to the fact that you shirked your responsibility to fix my second generator. Your insulting comment was "Two generators in a row! You must have done something bad!" Wow! It took a while, but responsible and legitimate ************** representatives from another region diagnosed and fixed the motor of the second generator. Dealing with you has been a total nightmare! You caused me a lot of stress and extra money. The fact that your company or companies are not legitimate and that your work could not stand up to scrutiny is reflected in the fact that you are not a member of the BBB.
