Top tips for finding a dentist:
Finding the right dentist for you is highly personal. There are ads everywhere for dental professionals, newspapers, mailers, and social media. The decision on who will be best for you and perhaps your family will depend on several criteria. You may need an orthodontist, someone who practices family dentistry, or specifically a children’s dentist. So, how do you choose the right dentist?
- Is the office easy to get to from home or work?
- Do they have convenient office hours?
- Ask family, friends, or co-workers. They may have a great dentist to recommend.
- Ask your family doctor or local pharmacist.
- If you are moving, ask your current dentist to make a recommendation.
- Does the dentist participate in your dental health plan?
- What arrangements are there for dental emergencies, like a broken tooth.
- Get a full accounting of what dental fees to expect, such as removing a tooth or the cost of getting a dental crown.
- Visit their website to get an idea of what the practice is like.
- Consult a professional organization like American Dental Association.
Schedule a consultation
Don’t be shy about asking for a visit to meet the dentist and staff. WebMD suggests you consider the following:
- Are you comfortable in the office? Is it neat and clean?
- Is the dental staff helpful and willing to answer questions?
- Do you observe the dentist and staff wearing gloves and other protective gear?
Something to remember
Your dental health is part of your overall health. You should consider your dentist, the hygienist and all members of the dental office as part of your health care team. It is imperative that you can relate and communicate well with your dental professionals.

Accreditation and Ratings Overview
Select businesses earn BBB Accreditation by undergoing a thorough evaluation and upholding the BBB Accreditation Standards.
BBB assigns ratings from A+ (highest) to F (lowest). In some cases, BBB will not rate the business (indicated by an NR, or "No Rating") for reasons that include insufficient information about a business or ongoing review/update of the business's file.
