We received on 9/5/2024 a letter from UAB Health Services Foundation dated 9/2/2024. It asserts that my wife has "an outstanding balance that is now seriously past due." It lists an ****. Balance of nearly $100. It threatens to refer the matter to "an outside agency for immediate collection." We have received no previous mailed or emailed notifications, invoices, bills. This threatening letter is the first we have heard of the balance. We have no idea why might owe this money, since the letter just lists a balance. It would seem a good business practice to send a bill and request payment before threatening to use a collection agency. I actually received an identical letter last month, again without prior bills and without explanation, that I deduced was an unpaid co-pay. I paid it online, but UAB Health Services Foundation seems to have no mechanism for tracking your account online, just for paying the money. We are not paying this bill until we have an itemized invoice documenting the billed costs.Business response

In response to the recent Better Business Bureau complaint, the University of Alabama at ********** ******************** conducted a thorough review of the Patients concerns and corresponding account. According to our records, the Patient received three-statements (over a three-month period) prior to the generation of the final demand letter. We have confirmed the accuracy of the balance and the address on file. Furthermore, we have no reason to believe that statements were not delivered as directed.
Prior to recording our response with the Better Business Bureau, we have made multiple attempts to contact the Patient, in order to provide a detailed itemized statement and address any additional questions regarding the outstanding balance. We hope that the Patient will appreciate our prompt attention to this matter and hope that he continues to utilize our services for his healthcare needs. Should the Patient have any additional questions or concerns regarding this matter, we would ask that he contact ****** ***** at **************.
