If I could I would give them a 0.5 rating based on their lack of response and time this has taken. What an ordeal it has been dealing with Protective after my mom passed away unexpectedly. Let's start with the fact that they do not have a set process in place beyond sending you the paperwork to be completed for a claim after a loved one has passed away. They communicate that there is a process, but their actions do not align with their words. I have documented every step and communication so I can update each representative how frustrating this has been. I am not sure what is going on with the processor end for the claims which tells me their leadership is a mess. Been wondering if the processor side of the line of business is under-staffed, incompetent, lazy, or just stalling on the claim in hopes something will go wrong and they don't have to pay the claim. This is not an organization you want to deal with during such a difficult time in life. They should be ashamed of themselves and their leadership should really look into process updates, project management trainings for the processors and hold themselves and their staff accountable to meet deadlines. They could really benefit from a consultant coming in for an assessment or some type of six sigma training. Also, let's get to the point as life insurance isn's just some product bought at a store like a piece of clothing or electronic. This is about a loved one passing. They are in a very important position where care and understanding meet compliance, efficiencies and attention to details.Honestly, after all the reviews I have just looked at online I cannot believe they are allowed to be in business and continue in this fashion. Shameful!Review from stephen n

Do not do business with this company. Unless you want to have the company pull money from your bank account without consent on your part. I purchased a 20 year Term Life policy in 2004 from this company for me and my wife. Throughout the 20 years, the policy premiums were drafted from our account without fail. Annually we would receive a letter from WCL showing what our policy costs would be AFTER our 20 year Term policies expired should we want to continue. We did not wish to continue our policies. Our policies expired and BAM! Our account was auto-drafted for the NEW much higher policy rate. After several calls and emails to the company assuring us the charges would be reversed...still no refund! Only forms to sign, have witnesses sign and returned with a hard deadline. Funny...they required NOTHING to extend our policies and were more than happy to draft payment from our account...but now lots of hoop jumping and signatures needed to cancel policies we never approved. Lots of great companies out there...this is not one of them.Protective Life Insurance Company Response

****************, Thank you for your review. We regret the experience you have encountered as this is not the Protective way. Please be assured it is our goal to provide quality service and it deeply disappoints us when we do not meet our customers expectations. We sincerely apologize for any inconvenience that may have been experienced as a result of the resent premium increase and refund request. Our records indicate a refund of the increased amounts is being processed for both policies. The funds will be electronically transferred back into the account originally drawn from. A more detailed letter will be sent to the address of record for each policy holder regarding this matter.Review from Rosalind J

Terrible customer service. No response to a complaint letter after they sent us two bizarre and incorrect annuity payments. Five phone calls resulted in long chats and hold times; the reps were pleasant but unable to provide requested info about our account. When higher-level person finally called, still never provided us an account history. If they are s******* us, or being reputable, we cant tellReview from Michael U

If it were possible, I would give Protective Life negative 5 Stars! They have messed up my *** ************ pretty much every year since they acquired it a decade or more ago. Every time I make a ************ it turns into a fiasco. I cannot count how many hours I have spent on the phone with them attempting to straighten things out. I have asked them over and over again to please straighten things out. Several times theyve actually lost my ************ check even though I send it certified mail with a cover letter (exactly as per their recommendations). I have had two supervisors (*********************, *****************************) assigned to me who admit and apologize profusely for the companies incompetence and vow to work directly with me on future ************s but when I call and/or email them I get their VM and never receive a reply or return phone call. If making a ************ is this nightmarish I can only imagine the horrors that await me when it comes time to make withdraws. One the most frustrating things about all this is that I did not originally open the *** with them. They acquired my account and I had NO say in it. I honestly do not know how they stay in business.Protective Life Insurance Company Response

Protective, Revolos Company, Assure Guard Extended Warranty Product. In late February 2024, my 2017 Chevrolet Tahoe received an engine light indicator while in operation. I delivered my vehicle to Pohanka Chevrolet, Chantilly, VA without delay due to the close vicinity and inability to stop on major road. There had been three third-party inspectors, from Assure Guard that visited the dealership for the major repair inspection and estimate of cost of the engine replacement. Two inspectors approved the repairs for the engine. The third only approved partial coverage for the replacement of the engine. This particular issue became an unwarranted major task having to speaking to various representatives throughout Protective, Revolos, and those affiliated with the Assure Guard Extended Warranty.I have submitted on numerous occasions to have my claim appealed and to be reimbursed for the out-of-pocket expense of $5057.25 due to a lack of proof technicality Revolos has deemed legitimate reasoning not to fund the complete replacement payment (but only partial payment) of the engine for the ***** Tahoe. The representatives at Pohanka of Chevrolet Dealership also agree that the decision made by ******* to not completely fund the total cost of the replacement of the engine was unprecedented and they had never had such a decision occur. There is no proof that, while already in route to work, the immediate delivery of my vehicle after indication of a check engine light to the dealership near where the check engine light illuminated, that this would/had cause the full destruction of the engine to the vehicle. No representative or inspector from Revolos provided any evidence to the dealership nor proof that the damage cause the total destruction of the engine nor any indication how that could be proven.I believe there is a lack of evidence present to make any analysis. It appears to me, from the consumer side, a forcible lack of due diligence on the part of Revolos.Protective Life Insurance Company Response

Don't waste your money. This place takes your money with c*** coverage. I spent over 2600 dollars on 3 warranties, the exclusions in the fine print get you. It's not worth it. Look around other places. I had 1 warranty that has since expired, I had an air conditioning problem, they fixed it but wouldn't replace the freon or refrigerant oil, I had to pay for that!!!!! The remaining 3 I can't get a refund on because of a claim clause. Please don't waste your time and money. Look elsewhere.Protective Life Insurance Company Response

I would ever recommend this company. When you contact customer service, you just get transferred from one representative to another. No one returns calls, no one. They just keep asking for more documentation. I am now in the process of contacting the ************************* They are are the basis for the film The Client.Protective Life Insurance Company Response

Protective Life Insurance Company does not deserve even one star. My husband passed away in January 2024. They were contacted the same day he passed away. We have filled 7 packets which include a W-9 form, Quick claim fraud form and death certificates. The funeral home has filled out 2 packets that have included the same W-9 forms, Quick claim fraud form and death certificate. I call weekly to get updates of the progress of payment and EVERY week I get a different answer. I have sent a letter and have been told on 3 occasions that a processor would call me back One never called. All I am asking is the policies that I have paid for be processed AND PAID in a timely manner. This is the worst insurance company I have ever worked with. I do NOT want and apology or excuses. I want the monies that is OWED to me.Review from John F

For decades I have had a policy. First it was Standard Insurance and that was good but then Protective became the policy holder and things have gone downhill. I always received dividend checks that had slowly been increasing, but about last year the check was reduced by over 70%. The company replied and blamed it on the economy. The economy cannot be the blamed for such a drastic reduction. Something funny is happening with the board or administrators of this company. My next step will be to ask for and administrative and criminal review of their transactions and business practices.Protective Life Insurance Company Response
