      I bought a mattress from the Homewood store, back in October 2021. Unfortunately, circumstances had it where it could not be delivered; I'd paid for it, half on my credit card, half in cash. I called the Homewood store asking for a credit back on my card, which she did. But, the cash would need to be processed at their corporate office (in Pelham, AL) in order for a check to be written to me. Well, I have called the Pelham store, twice. I was told that I'd receive it soon. Well that's been some weeks ago. I've left a message asking for a check, but to no avail. My purpose in writing this on BBB.org is to inform/warn others, DO NOT pay cash/not go there, because your cash will NOT be returned to you; it's occurring interest for others. I do not need to upload my receipt from them, it should be the same as mine and as theirs. I prefer no other contact verbally, only my check refunded back, ASAP !

      Business Response /* (1000, 7, 2021/12/27) */ WE are sorry that Mrs. ******* feels this way. We told her at time of cancellation that refunds take 4 to 6 weeks for cancelling customer to receive their check. Mrs. ******* cancelled on November the 9th, 2021. Her check was cut to her on December 10th, 2021. Mrs. ******* cashed the check that we sent her on December the 17th in person at our bank, in full. Mrs. ******* should be satisfied with the closing of this response. Consumer Response /* (3000, 9, 2021/12/29) */ (The consumer indicated he/she DID NOT accept the response from the business.) One, Bed zzz express on records on their own check sent to me December 14, 2021 received by me on December 16, 2021, shows the disregard and total error in any type of honest and fair business, especially for a company and their own bank, South State Bank. On the bottom of the perforated part shows the date the check was referenced/written on November 9, 2021. But, the last line dated entered check shows another date as 12/10/2021. As stated and can be referenced back to their records, it took them a month to send me a check they wrote out on 11/09/2021. They waited another month just to mail it. And, what makes this situation such a farce for a company and their own bank South State; I decided to go to South State bank (********, Alabama) on 12/17/2021, so that I could cash this check than wait for this check to clear in another month. Unbeknownst to me another stalling tactic was to transpire just in order NOT to cash Bedzzz Express's check that they had mailed to me. The check had my correct name and address; I endorsed my name on this check at South State bank. I asked the teller could I get a copy of this check, because it was strange there were different dates on this check. She did. While looking at her computer screen, I assume as any other bank, making certain there was money in the account in order to honor an instrument written to me, would be honored. The teller E, told me that she would have to call Bed zzz Express in order to get it okay'd from Bed zzz Express; she stated it was their policy. She called several times to Bed zzz express and could not get anyone to answer their phone. As time transpired, she asked if I would come back. I told her, no I would not and I was not leaving without Bed zzz Express's check being honored, then and cashed. She told me that it's their policy to call the business and get an okay to cash their checks. I explained to her, once it was mailed to me, Bed zzz Express had already given their bank, South State to honor their checks. So, after already being stalled on getting a check honored from Bed zzz Express was turning out to be a total sham and fiasco; more than I would ever experience from a business and a banking business. Therefore, I explained to teller E., I was going outside to my car and call the police and make an incident report. I called Bed zzz Express's ****** office (was told this is their corporate office) and explained what was transpiring; was told by D. that it would have to go through the corporate office. And, he could do nothing about it. As, I was calling the non emergency number for the ******** Police department, I heard, someone knocking on the hood of my car, teller E. saying the check had been ok'd. Therefore, I hung up from the police station before being answered. As, I entered South State bank stood a woman at the entrance saying was there a problem. She did not identify herself, but I said yes; for some reason I can not get this instrument cashed. During this fiasco of whatever they are, she Thomas (as I had to ask her what was her name and title). She was the branch's assistant manager; she was there enforcing whatever they could so, I would leave and not cash this check. I told her, she needed to go back to her office, because she was escalating a situation whereas the teller E had already said, the check had been okay'd and said it was to be cashed. I, then understood, they did not want me to call and make an incident report. South State's bank assistant bank manger, stood, stared at me, intimidating me, so that I would leave and not get Bed zzz Express's check honored; she told me to come back. I informed her I was not leaving without them honoring Bed zzz Express's check, that had already been held up from the day it was written 11/09/2021 and another date on the bottom half of the check 12/10/2021; mailed out on 12/14/2021 and received by me on 12/16/2021. So, then on 12/17/2021; therefore, I was not leaving until Bed zzz Express's check was honored and by South State bank, on December 17, 2021. I had never seen such a force of irresponsible intimidating actions from a business (Bed zzz Express) with the conjunction of a bank (South State bank), just to keep an instrument of payment from being honored. I was told to leave without the check being honored. I told them I was not until they honored Bed zzz Express's check, mailed to me. I never raised my voice, neither did I say any unpleasant words. But, I was most definitely intimidated and feared for my safety at the level of intimidation being forced on me. But, I was NOT leaving. I finally got my money minus $8.00, because I went to get it cashed and their other policy is since not a member of South State bank, they charge $8.00; I did this rather than have Bed zzz Express's check be held up again for another month; is the reasoning I was right about going to get Bed zzz Express's check honored. If, the check was insufficient in money, they should have just said it, and marked the check as such; as like with everybody else's accounts. So, the response from Bed zzz Express is very, very unprofessionally inaccurate. I was not happy in the slightest in any space and time, being a human being, it's suffice it to say the least, since not a member of this bank, (never never will) that this is how I was treated. No sir, I'm not satisfied, but it's enough to say and read. And, I'm sure, you are aware. Business Response /* (4000, 12, 2022/01/05) */ We did everything promised. We showed up on the day of delivery and customer did not answer the door, the drivers called and let customer know that we were delivering on the date that customer chose. That cost us a delivery expense...we didn't charge the customer for that delivery. Customer called store and stated that you were not ready for the mattress delivery on that day. Then came into the store on November the 9th and wanted a refund. You paid partial check and partial visa. Visa being the larger portion. We ran the visa refund and did an office refund. We told the customer that the check would take 4 to 6 weeks to process. You went to the bank on the 17th of December and got the check cashed. Your reference of the check having a date of November the 9th was a reference to when you started the refund process. Not the date that the check was written. The computer generated check date was/is December the 10th. Customer talked to me on the 9th of December and explained that she hasn't received the refund check. I made sure that the check was written the very next day. I even took the check to the office lady that was out sick and had her process the check in our system. I was doing this to get the customers check to her as soon as possible. Customer wrote the BBB the same day that I talked to her on the 9th. The bank did everything that they are suppose to do, making sure that we wrote the check because consumers don't usually cash checks refunded to them they just deposit them into their account. We have a policy that all cashed checks are verified before cashing the said check. Once the bank got the ok to cash the check you got your money back. You said that a refund would satisfy you...but then we get this response from you...i understand that it is not the smoothest transaction you have ever had, but this was still done with the 6 week time period given to you on November the 9th...December 21st would have been the end of the 6 weeks. Again we are sorry you feel as you do. WE have an impeccable reputation with the BBB and work hard to maintain a good standing in the community. Again we are sorry you feel this way about our comapny.
