August 25, 2023 my son went to the dentist at butler pediatric dentistry for a regular cleaning. During the cleaning the office found a cavity on the lower left molar which need to be take care of. The only issue was that my wife had just been terminated from her job and her insurance benefits were going to be terminated at the end of August. Since we were already a few days away from the end of the month of August. We were not able to get my son in for an appointment in time for insurance to cover the cavity removal visit. My son did not have dental coverage for the month of September or October of 2023. Because I urgently wanted to take care of the cavity i made an appointment for my son to get the cavity removed and asked what that out of pocket cost would be without insurance because my family did not have dental coverage as of 09/01/2023. I was told verbally somewhere along the lines of $300 something would be the out of pocket cost with no insurance. I made the appointment saved what money I could to pay for this appointment for October 26, 2023. On October 26, 2023 I brought my son in for his appointment to get this cavity removed. I reassured the front desk lady I was not going to use any insurance and that I would solely be paying out of pocket for this appointment and wanted her to reassure me the cost of this appointment and she told me I was going to have to pay $191.50. I asked her again if this was the out of pocket cost without insurance and she verbally told me, yes. Months later in May of 2024 I receive a bill in the mail that I had to pay the remaining $541.50 that the insurance, I no longer had, did not cover for the 10/26/2023 appointment. I called the office and spoke with the manager to work out a solution for their mistake with their billing team. The office manager apologized and said ooopsie, but unfortunately a resolution would be unethical for this mistake and my account will be sent to collections. Because of their mistake.
