On July 8,2023 I purchased a 2013 ******* Sonata Hybrid from ********* for $5970 for the car in addition to $200 for the 2 day warranty.************** Dealership did a diagnostic and inspection on the car on July 11,2023 and stated that the car only had minor work needed on it but that it would be a good purchase so i bought the car. On August 3,2023(about 3 weeks after the purchase) the car stopped working and shut off without warning. On August 17,2023 the car was taken to ************** dealership for repairs. I picked up the car from the dealership on September 1,2023 and the car is still not operable. The car's electrical system won't turn on at all, the trunk doesn't open, the car isn't turning on and it has affected my finances and my job. When the car had been purchased, we were not given a Car Facts report, but we had done the research on our own to make sure we were purchasing a working car and didn't find anything alluding to the car being in poor condition. The smog check had also passed so there was no reason to think otherwise. I've reached out to ********* on September 9,2023 through their website asking for some sort of compromise. We've gotten good cars here from the past (so it is a reputable business), but this is a first time that the car was a lemon. I'd just like some sort of compromise where I can trade my car in for a different one of the same price, have the location repair the car issues, or receive a refund as a last resort. (I'd prefer the first option)

      Business response

      10/04/2023

While I am sorry to hear about ****************** troubles with her purchase of the 2013 Sonata, she did sign our purchase agreement and acknowledged that she understood that the car was being purchased "AS IS" from our auction and she did in fact have the ******* dealer check it out to her satisfaction during her 2 day window in which she could've returned the car for any reason and received a refund or credit towards another vehicle.  Even in this complaint she has provided those sale documents attesting to this fact.  The car was in her possession for almost a month before she contacted us to return it.  Blok, as a public auto auction, cannot be responsible for repairs or problems with any of the cars sold after they have left the lot and after the return option days (the 2 days option given to every buyer at the time of sale).  We have no way of knowing what has gone on with the car during the month following the sale, or any other conditions it was subjected to and while I certainly sympathize with the buyers repairs, the are no auctions or dealers that would simply refund the purchase price of a car sold a month after the sale for any reason.  We are also a public Auction, not a dealership, so as such, we do not have the ability to do repairs or take cars in on trade, since all our cars are consigned and not owned by *****  I am sorry to hear about ****************** troubles with this car, since she has stated that she has purchased cars from us in the past, but as a used car auction, just like if she and bought a car privately from another person, there are no warranties or promises on any used cars. It is always the buyers responsibility to research the history of the car including running a Carfax, for which all the *** numbers of all our cars are provided on our website and in person everyday.  She stated that she did in fact run a Carfax or equivalent history on the car and it showed nothing unusual in the history.  So unfortunatly there is nothing I can do for her as to recovering costs for any repairs or taking this car in for a trade, since we are not a dealer who buys and sells used cars...we are a Public Auto Auction.

I bought a 2012 Ford Focus SE (stock number *****) from BLOK Charity Auto Clearance on 9/19/2022 for $4,700.00. On 9/21/2022, I stopped at a red light about to turn left. After the car turned green, I stepped on the gas pedal to make a left, but the car rolled back into the car behind me. The car was taken to the mechanic the next day, who said it was a transmission problem. BLOK representatives told me they would not allow me to return the car and refund me my money because I opted not to purchase the 2-day return option and purchased the car as is. They also said I could have had a mechanic check the car out. BLOK could have had a mechanic check their cars out before selling them to the public. I was even told I was not allowed to test drive the car. When asked why information and history about the car were not disclosed, BLOK representative, *****, said that was because they don't have the information since the cars they sell are donated. A company selling cars should do its due diligence to make sure the cars are safe to drive before selling them. Just because the cars are donated, it doesn't mean that they can't have a mechanic check out and repair the cars before selling them. The car accident could have been much worse and resulted in bodily injury. I'm not the only one who encountered mechanical issues from the cars bought from this company. Many other people have. ***** keeps saying that the company operates as an auto auction and not a car dealership so rules and regulations dealerships must abide by do not apply to BLOK. However, ***** and their website stated that they are not doing any auction due to the COVID-19 pandemic. How can they operate as a car auction when they are not even holding auctions?
