1/12/23 Appt was booked for 1/16/23 with Total Dermatology specifically for a treatment prescribed by my Dermatologist for a product only offered at this location an hour and half from my home. Product Name: Dermamalan 1/16/23 At the time of appt Total Dermatology has me scheduled for a same day consult with the treatment to follow. At the consult the business manager ****** made alleged claims that an active ingredient would cause me an allergic reaction based on my answers to medical questions. Yet my medical history was known to my dermatologist who prescribed Dermamalan as a solution. The business manager then suggested I take on another alternative without any proof that the product would work on *************** skin and failed to provide examples of proof of work.Additionally this office faked reaching out to the rep for this product to confirm an allergic reaction to the product. The alternative treatment a VI Peel was applied and the nurse admitted they had never used the product in the area of the body it was being used for.The alternative product never worked, left me with peeling skin weeks after the peel process was completed I still have very dry skin in the nose creases where this product was used and the office never actually called to follow up if Dermamalan was a safe product to use which further proves the office lord about precautions using the product.Further online reviews about this establishment support the claim that this business focuses lesser on viable patient solutions and are focused on cash grab tactics to keep their business afloat. Feigning medical liability based on allergies that could have been provides ahead of the visit when many patients drive from locations out of the local city is not in alignment with a company that holds integrity with how they run their business. Please see the desired resolution to this claim.Ursulline

      Business response

      06/30/2023

To Whom It May ******************* patient came in on 01/16/23 with concerns about pigment, mild acne, as well as other concerns not related to her complaint. She was interested in the Dermamelan Peel, however, after noticing she had an allergy to Sulfa, I mentioned that the product may have Sulfa in it, as I remember the rep mentioning that the Cosmelan Peel (same company that makes Dermamelan Peel) may contain it. I let her know that it makes me itchy as I also have an allergy to Sulfa and I think that is why it made me so itchy. I offered to call the rep to find out if it in fact it contained Sulfa, in which she agreed. I stepped out and *** and I both made a phone call to the rep, however, no one picked up and we ended up leaving a voicemail message. We gave her the option of moving forward with the Dermamelan Peel or an alternative which is our ****** for the body instead. She opted to do the ****** body instead. She signed all consents and proceeded with the treatment. Pigment can be stubborn and multiple treatments may be needed and "no results can be guaranteed," as the consent clearly states. We did receive a call from the rep after the patient left stating that there was no Sulfa in the Dermamelan. We were following proper protocol and being proactive to make sure we were safely and effectively prescibing the best treatment for this patient. I have been working with Doctor for 14 years, and have never received a complaint by the BBB.

Please let me know if you need anything else related to this concern.
