I received a verbal estimate from the shop when I brought my car down for a minor front bumper side side repaint. The estimator provided me a range of $1,000 to $1,500 for the repair. Based on that information, we decided to not use our insurance and pay for the repair on our own. The following week, my wife (who is Vietnamese and speaks English as a second language) went to drop off the car and was told to sign an estimate that she was told was the same that I was provided as a verbal estimate the week before. I reviewed the estimate when she got home and realized it was $737 above the top end of the estimate I was provided. I spoke with the manager and was told verbal estimate do not mean anything and he would not adjust my bill. He also stated the cost would be less going through my insurance agency but would not allow the bill to go through my insurance because they already started on the paint work. This company took advantage of a Vietnamese woman who was told she was signing an estimate that was provided me. This is fraud.

Chilton was selected by my insurance to replace a stolen catalytic converter. Instead of replacing it with the appropriate part that is compatible with my car make/model, the mechanic ripped off the sticker confirming such information, and placed an incompatible part on my car. A few months later, I discovered that this had happened when I attempted a smog check in order to renew my registration. I went back to Chilton to see if they could resolve my issue, and they told me, "Sorry, there's nothing we can do." So, I'm out $1500, and I have a car that I can't drive because I can't complete the registration. Way to add insult to injury, Chilton. Any help you can provide would be greatly appreciated. Thank you.
