    When we found The Hinterland in early 2022, we were over the moon! We decided to book for 2024. A couple weeks after we booked, we unfortunately had to decide to cancel. I contacted Kristyn to explain the circumstances and notified her we had to cancel. We were canceling over 2 years in advance and offered to assist in finding a couple to book our date but The Hinterland was unwilling to work with us in any way. Due to the circumstances and being booked in the most popular month, they are definitely able to rebook our date. However, the owners refused to refund us even a portion of our deposit. To book The Hinterland, they require you to pay 50% of the ENTIRE cost (more than typical venues) meaning we lost almost four thousand dollars. Changing our plans already was disappointing, but this situation honestly made me lost faith in the wedding industry. This has greatly impacted the excitement of getting married. I do not recommend this venue.

    As the owner I take absolute pride in the relationships we create through booking our space. We are always reasonable but do stick to our contracted policies. As we believe our couples wish that we also follow through on our end we wish the same on the other end. Upon receiving ******* initial email on 8.14.2022 initially wanting to cancel we explained the policy moving forward as she requested. On 8.15.2022 The Hinterland responds to *******s request on information to cancell " Hi *******! I’m so sorry to hear your canceling but happy to hear your eloping too! Unfortunately with deposits they are all non refundable. Did you want to hold the date for another event or just cancel? I will have to send over a cancelation form for you to sign once I know what you want to do." On 8.15.2022 ******* writes "Thank you for the prompt response. Does The Hinterland provide any elopment options? Since our deposit is non-refundable, I was wondering if we would be able to just have a ceremony onsite without a reception sometime in 2022 or early 2023. We are hoping to not lose everything we deposited, we unfortunately just need to pivot. On 8.15.22 The Hinterlands response "We can totally do anything you want with the dates we have available to use the funds you’ve paid. Shoot me with some ideas and I can send dates we have." We were 100% willing and ready to work with *******. Over the next few days we chatted about new dates and availability with her other vendors for other dates we had mutually agreed on. To say we were not willing to work with them in any way is 100% inaccurate. This was all at no additional charges as elopements would cost less than a larger scale wedding. On 8.18.2022 we made sure ******* knew this "We would use any monies paid for the services as long as there are no additional guests there shouldn't be additional charges. If we downscaled you may be able to just use the deposit and no additional payments. It all depends on the final plans, with timing and guest count. If you did a ceremony only with 25 guests you wouldn't owe additional from your deposit already paid." On 8.19.2022 ******* came to a decision knowing all the information given with our cancelation policy in hand and all the options to help guide her through something on a smaller scale with that was what was being requested. " My fiancé and I talked more in depth and we would like to move forward with cancelling. I appreciate your patientce and communication during this tough decision. Please provide the cancellation forms. " Our cancelation policy in our contract states that there are no refunds -This is always a touchy subject when canceling but never when booking as no one plans to cancel. However if there was any doubt they 100% did not have to book or sign the contract knowing this was the policy. We wish all our couples well and hate when they are unable to continue out their journey in our space. We wish things worked our differently for this relationship and apologize for it not being the result they were looking for.
