In or about 3/22 I moved from ** to ********** **. I left my car in *** ***** as I could not drive a ****** and my car at the same time.I picked up my car 1 1/2 wks later to go my new residence. Driving home, the “check engine light“ went on. I’m permanently disabled on SS benefits & Statistically live in poverty. As a result, my options for car repairs were very limited. Previously, I’d used “Snap Finance” for repairs. The problem with that is you have to use a repair shop that accepted SNAP and take your chances that you would get an honest mechanic. I located a garage in ******* ** about 30 minutes from my home. I discussed with the owner of the garage, at length and repeatedly, that I wanted fixed ONLY what was absolutely necessary due to my limited/fixed income. I utilized my *** to have the car towed to the repair shop (Interstate Auto Sales and Service) in ******* **. Due to a glitch in my iPhone I was not able to complete SNAP’s application, so I asked the owner of the auto repair shop to assist me in doing so. SNAP Finance approved $5000 in repairs, as needed. The owner of the repair shop knew I had been approved for $5000 as he had done the application for me! I explained my financial situation over and over to the auto repair shop owner emphasizing the fact that just because I was approved for $5000 did not mean I could afford to repay it! In fact, I did everything I could to try to make him understand he was only to repair what was absolutely necessary to get the car back on the road. We went back-and-forth and he came up with a literal “laundry list” of repairs which was absurd. He would not relent, and I was forced (if I wanted my car back) to go forward with the lengthy list of repairs. I don’t believe the majority of repairs done were needed! He agreed to purchase parts where I suggested, but said they would not be “warranteed”; he has refused to provide me with invoices for these parts. He also caused damage to my seat.
