They advertise that they work with people when you struggle to make payments but in reality they will dodge any attempt at working with you to make payments. You pay exactly what they say or they go after your credit. Shitty way to run a business. I would be willing to make lower payments but they just refuse out right. They are bleeding this generation dry.Business response

SALLIE MAE ruin our credit, my son and mine, even when we did pay on time, direct pay for almost 2 years, their report to the credit bureaus is affecting and will affect us for years, Sallie Mae was a public iniciative created by the goverment to support education, but suddenly become private in the years we used them, they negleted doing due dilligiences, they just approved every single loan they got their hands on, specially the art students, they are one of the depredators lenders taking advantage of public funds . there must be a law to protect students and families from this kind of lenders, we just wanted to create a better future and end up with bad lenders like Sallie Mae. Do not use them they will ruin you, no matter what.Business response

A Sallie Mae school loan for LaGrange College was for $9000 and this was disbursed on 8/29/2013. Payments I have made to date amount to $10,327. With unfair credit practice and accruals, the balance is now $9148.00. Over eleven years, none of the over $10k in payments have reduced the balance and has increased it.Business response

I have not received anything from the business Sallie Mae. I called Sallie Mae on 7/29 and requested all documents be mailed to my address relating to this loan. I have also instructed Sallie Mae to contact the recipient of this loan and provided the address. This is NOT satisfied and I do not accept their response. I do believe after trusting in the integrity of this company to aid in educating the young, I’d get more of a response than the generic one provided. NOT Satisfied!!

They just told me the same “policies” over the phone. What they failed to do was show transparency in how they assign interest rates. My suspicion is that they advertise rates that are very attractive compared to their competitors to get you to apply. Then they only give bad rates even to people in my position with excellent credit and a cosigner. At that point you have a choice to make, take the credit hit and apply elsewhere or accept the bad terms. In my case they are one of only two services I have as an option and they are using that as leverage to force myself or my peers in school into TERRIBLE interest rates that will keep us under debt for ever. In fact with the interest rates as high as they are they expect to earn double the principle as interest over the course of a 15 year loan. Imagine paying 350-400k to go to medical school but owing an additional 700-800k in interest over the life of the loan. They are making a massive profit off of the very people they would expect to care for them if they every needed ou Mr help. My point in all of this is to point out and make clear that these business practices are unethical at best and are downright criminal at worst (I also filed a fraud advertising complaint with the FTC). perhaps someone there with some power will read this and decide to do something morally right instead of just seeking to extract the most possible profit out of medical students. thank you. BBB disposes unto MARKTEPLACE issues that implicate transactions and deeds particular to the Sale of Goods and Services. On that due basis, we hereby undertake to implicate Marketplace issues involving SALLIE MAE'S, relative to their assured, and primary contracting recipients, the THREE delinquents, RUTGERS CAMDEN, PITT STATE UNIVERSITY, and IOWA STATE UNIVERSITY. The FIRST TWO have definitively breached against their Covenant, AFTER appropriating our so-called " Guaranteed " Funds, with the BREACH of the Covenant, resulting in a direct NEGATION of those guarantees. We NO LONGER owe these funds, and are DUE an ABSOLUTE Refund on those Two Institutions, and unto the Proportionate SUMS carefully documented. We DEMAND Sallie Mae's to forthwith ENFORCE our REFUND claims, OR be LITIGATED AGAINST for engaging in INTERMEDIARY FRAUD, by intentionally providing other people's promises, to unaccountable, breaching, and bad-faith Vendors! The LAST THIRD, IOWA THIRD UNIVERSITY owes a CONDITIONAL Refund relative to a REPAIR against DEFICIENT GOODS, which requires a careful MEDIATION, that shall either result in refund, or in repair accommodations. It is UNCLEAR as to which of these TWO the recipient shall select, as the "Jury is Out " on this case, and we need SALLIE MAE'S to broach to this dialogue DIRECTLY with IOWA STATE UNIVERSITY, while engaging us, the PROMISOR, on the articulation of deficiency, as against which DUE CURE is foremost at the Remedy. Not only is Sallie Mae as a company corrupt and predatory, but they are unorganized. I have called this company about 15 or more times in the past few months about an investigation on my loan and what could be done about it due to it being improperly filled out. April 12, was my last call. A representative spoke to me about it and let me know she will be calling back the following Monday. She did not call me back at all. I waited for two months. Now I owe $486 with no job and no form of income.Business response

I am writing urgently to address errors on my credit report caused by the sharing of my personal information with credit bureaus, which has resulted in significant financial and emotional distress. According to 15 USC 1681 Section 602, I have the right to financial privacy and expect my information to remain confidential. Additionally, per 15 USC 1681 Section 604(a)(2), a consumer reporting agency cannot disclose account details without my explicit consent, which I have not provided. The discrepancies associated with SALLIE MAE have negatively affected my financial situation and require immediate correction. Furthermore, compliance with 15 USC 1666(b) is crucial, as it prohibits creditors from treating credit card payments as late under specific conditions. For your reference, here are my account details: Account Number: 585250003430**** Account Number: 585250003520**** I request a thorough review of my account, prompt correction of the credit report inaccuracies, and strict adherence to federal laws governing my information. Failure to address these concerns promptly may result in legal action. I appreciate your immediate attention to this matter. Sincerely,Business response

I am writing to raise concerns about my private student loans and the business practices of Navient’s partner, Sallie Mae. I attended Berklee College of Music from 2015-2018. My parents had federal Sallie Mae loans with low-interest rates and fair repayment plans. When I applied for loans, Berklee listed Sallie Mae as a preferred lender. We assumed these were similar federal loans. However, due to Sallie Mae’s privatization and rebranding as Navient, I believe the company misrepresented the nature of these loans to me and my co-signer (father). Throughout the pandemic, I kept my account in good standing, even though Sallie Mae did not pause payments and continued accruing interest (initially 6%, now 15%). Federal loans were paused during this period. Sallie Mae has frequently contacted me, claiming my loans are “past due” despite being current. Despite my requests to stop, the relentless communication continued, forcing me to block their emails and calls. It is now clear that I have a private variable-rate loan with Sallie Mae. However, there is no promissory note or contract in our records. My interest rate has soared to 15.5%, and Sallie Mae representatives cannot provide clear information on the initial or variable interest rate range. When asked for the initial contract, they said it would take days to locate it, which is unacceptable. They also refuse to offer a fixed-rate program or consolidation. The income-driven repayment plan only covers interest, not reducing the principal. I believe Sallie Mae is engaging in predatory lending and misrepresentation. Their practices align with issues highlighted in a recent class action case and settlement against Navient. Sincerely,Business response

I contacted Sallie Mae on May 16th to resolve my account's status by setting up a payment arrangement. Initially, I was informed that I had until May 19th to resolve the status on the account before my credit report would be hit again on May 19th so to protect my credit score, I called when I knew I would have money to pay since I recently started a new job and get paid bi-weekly. An arrangement was set up, my loan was extended, and APR lowered. During the call with the customer service agent from the Loan Modification Department, I scheduled TWO payments on a recorded phone call for FRIDAY MAY 17TH in the amount of $22.79 and $98.50 for the total amount of $121 and that would bring my account up to current. Additionally, I agreed to 2 other scheduled payments for the months of JUNE and JULY to enroll in the new payment agreement. I agreed to the amount of $121 to be charged and the agent somehow FAILED the payment was never made, and my credit score and payment history was impacted again this week. I submitted the dispute through Experian and got no results, I also reached out to customer service, and no one called me back. THIS IS AT SALLIE MAE'S FAULT. I CALLED ON A RECORDED LINE WHERE I HAD TO PRESS THE POUND SIGN (#) AND AGREED TO THE PAYMENTS. YET IT WAS SENT TO THE CREDIT BUREUS THAT FOR THE MONTH OF MAY, MY ACCOUNT WAS STILL PAST DUE BECAUSE I HAD NOT PAID. I DEMAND A CORRECTION TO MY CREDIT REPORT AND THE PAYMENT THAT I AGREED TO, TO BE ACCEPTED. THE CALLS ARE RECORDED AND THERE ARE NOTES TAKEN DURING THE CALLS. I CALLED IN APRIL AND MAY I DID NOT WANT MY PAYMENT HISTORY TO BE IMPACTED AGAIN. This is causing me distress because I have been rebuilding my life after a year of trying to find employment and being impacted by inflation. I called, did the right thing, and Sallie Mae made the mistake, NOT me; I called to pay. I only have 1 missed payment during all my years with Sallie Mae and that was in April.
