I hired Lewis roofing to fix a roof leak in a house I was purchasing. They misdiagnosed the leak and ended up paying for areas of new roof that were not leaking. Upon their completion of work and after the next heavy rainfall I noticed the original leak was not only not resolved but I now had multiple new leaks inside. I informed them, they came out and blamed it on something else. I purchased tarps and put them in the areas they said was the problem and the leaks didnt stop, in fact with each rain over the last several months even with the tarps new leaks were forming all around the areas they performed work. They told me to file an insurance claim. Insurance hired a third party engineer and the result was workmanship error by Lewis roofing that the flashing was not sealed which was allowing water to penetrate inside my house in over a dozen spots. When I gave Lewis roofing this report they came out and found that they did indeed forget to seal the flashing and had a crew come out same day to add the sealant. They asked for me to wait a few rains to see if the leaks were fixed. After a few rains I let them know all of the new leaks inside had stopped with the exception of the original leak I had initially hired them for that they misdiagnosed. Their workmanship error not sealing the flashing caused extensive inside damage to my interior ceiling in multiple rooms surrounding the areas of work they performed, upon sealing it correctly the leaks stopped and they are refusing to take responsibility for the damages and are refusing to pay for the interior damage repairs. They offered $1,000 to settle which the damages are much more and I said no so they told me there is nothing else they are willing to do, they fixed the outside area after 8 months and their job is done and what happened to the inside of my house due to their negligence is now my problem. This is very unprofessional, they provided a 5 year workmanship warranty under contract but have since refused.

************ is leaving out a lot of information. She had just bought the house with existing leak and interior damage. She had a report from a home inspector that says the flat roof was causing a leak and ************ was given a credit from the seller to replace the flat roof and interior repairs. She asked my representative for a price to replace the flat roof and that's all we did. She is asking for us to pay for prior damage that was there when she purchased the house.

I am rejecting this response because:

Attached is the 4 point inspection prior to Lewis Roofing showing no leaks. A leak was discovered and Lewis came out to do an estimate and misdiagnosed the problem and also forgot to seal the flashing which caused ALL of my interior damage. Listing photos of the house at purchase showing NO interior damage prove this was all as a result of the flashing not being sealed and leaking into the interior of my house causing the damage. All of it was caused by leaks due to the flashing not being sealed from Lewis roofing which they admitted to and came out months later to repair and during that time multiple storms caused all of the inside damage due to their faulty workmanship.

      Sincerely,

      ***********************

The reviewer called us out initially as a buyer of a house seeking to get information on a leak-caused ceiling stain and where it was coming from. Based on the condition of the flat roof and puddling in the transition, we believed that it was coming from that area. The seller included replacing the flat roof in the closing agreements and paid for it apart of the deal. We then added a tapered system to the roof for no extra charge to help the flat roof drain better and no puddling would occur in the middle - an extra benefit. While the flat roof was scheduled the reviewer messaged us how the leak was getting worse and had a representative go out and put roofing cement on the transition area to alleviate the leak in the meantime - out of good faith. A photo of that message is included, proving, that there was pre-existing damage to the interior prior to us doing the work. In addition to that, the engineer report shows multiple photos of pre-existing damage dating back to before we did the work, as well as new leaks in areas of the house that are far from flat roof. Which is contradictory to the reviewer stated, that all the stains were there from the flashing.

Per our warranty. we went out immediately to fix the flashing. In addition, we offered $1,000 for areas that could have been damaged from the unsealed flashing.

Absolutely horrible experience with this company. First, they talked me into doing a plan with Fortifi for financing through the Florida pace program which was approved in July. I explained to the rep that I was a single mom and trying to recover financially from being in a really bad car accident and he assured me theyd take care of everything. The crew made a huge mess in my yard daily, left hundreds of screws, nails and pieces of old shingle in the yard and driveway where my kids play. Then they didnt replace the gutters in the back and I had to ask them to send someone to come out and do it which took weeks. Then the skylights started literally raining into my house, buckets of water, and it took weeks to get those fixed too. There is permanent water damage in my ceiling from the prolonged leaks. Whoever did the skylights left trash everywhere, and never removed the sky lights, theyre still in my backyard. They filed the certificate of completion so late with the financing company that apparently the pace program has new rules in *************** starting August and stated they would no longer finance here (perhaps the roofing company should be aware of these?) . They did not tell me any of this for weeks and then I got a text message from the rep that there was an issue with the financing after the roof was already done. ******* said there was nothing they could do to help me with this. I never would have gotten the roof put on without the financing, but because they did such a crappy job, and filed everything so late, they demanded I pay them as soon as possible. I dumped out everything I had in my savings to give them $6000 cash and told them as soon as I could refinance my house in April I would pay the rest, which is sooner then theyd have gotten the money with Fortifi (that would have started in June). They are now sending me threatening mail and trying to put a lien on my house for their mistakes and so are rude and unprofessional.

I have also provided proof of the nails from my driveway and proof of some of the ceiling damage. I have more if needed. I will also be happy to send photos of the trash and debris.

      Complaint: 21308028

I am rejecting this response because:

there was no response to the complaint filed nor was there any effort to make it right by the business. Additionally, the business has violated the cease and desist filed and has filed a lien against my property despite being out of the allotted statute of limitations for a mechanic lien as well as falsifying multiple documents with a notary public. I have begun a complaint with the ************************ in regards to the activity of your notary, ***********************, who prepared all your documents and then illegally notarized my signature without my knowledge or presence, and with examining the handwriting, it is identical on both documents, so either ******* Lewis is utilizing someones notary stamp without their knowledge, or *********************** is guilty of many violations of his commission. I find it incredibly ironic that the original notary stamp used is not even registered to him. I will also be filing a complaint with the **** against the roofing license of ******* ********************** for his deceptive practices. I am currently getting estimates for the damage done to my home by Lewis Roofing and I will be seeking legal council to assist me further. I hope NO ONE ever uses this company for their roof.

I am rejecting this response because:

So because your roofers improperly placed skylights, and you allowed water to pour into my house for weeks, and then you sent out a ****** who got crumbled ceiling all over my house when he placed the new skylights, and proceeded to leave them in my backyard,  this requires a warranty to fix? How about be a decent business owner and admit your company did a poor job, damaged my home, and is going to cost me over $3.75 per foot to fix the damage, and deduct this from the cost you illegally placed a lien for?  I have attached an estimate to fix the ceiling. I will be HAPPY to post the texts between myself and *** where he placed a tarp over my skylights and let water pour into my house and was FULLY AWARE of the job being done poorly here as proof. Everything I am saying is true and you really should be ashamed of yourself as a business owner trying to intimidate and harass me. I know my rights and you have violated them.

      Sincerely,

The ceiling was damaged by your crews prior to the attempted filing of the certificate of completion. It is your responsibility to fix it. The water damage is solely your fault and your responsibility as a contractor. There was no contract signed with you that was not falsified by your notary or left intentionally blank nor was there any clause anywhere about a warranty. Please provide the information for your insurance prior to me involving the **** to do so.

I contracted with Lewis Roofing on 10/6/2022 to repair my hurricane Ian damaged roof and negotiate with my insurance company (AAA). On 2/7/2023 I terminated my agreement because I was not satisfied with their service. I subsequently received a bill for $2000 from them for installing patches on my tile roof . I communicated with my representative, Roy H****, that he should seek payment from my insurance co. I also informed him that the insurance adjustor indicated that the cost of repair was $1085. I also told him their bill was exorbitant. I then received another bill for $2000 which also informed me that they might put a lien on my home. I then placed 5 calls to their Bradenton office asking to speak with a billing rep. No one returned any of my calls. On 3/8/2023 I sent a check for$400 by certified mail to the Bradenton Office along with a note that I believed this to be fair payment. I also said that if it was not acceptable then they should send me a detailed breakdown of the costs of labor and materials as I never received this information on the bills.I checked online with USPS and found that the certified mail was not delivered because no one was available to accept the mail. I am willing to pay a reasonable amount but all my attempts to communicate with them have failed and they are not returning my calls. I would appreciate any assistance you can give to me to teach a mutually agreeable solution

*******,  Our invoice is not negotiable. We are very easy to reach. I can actually see each time you've called in to complain about the price.  We even have a call center that answers if we do not pickup.  Our minimum tile roof repair is $2500 and minimum emergency services on a tile roof is $2000. I'm sure you would like to pay less and make money off the invoice we sent to your insurance company but the price is the price and that is fraud. The insurance company stated that they paid our invoice to you in full which if isn't paid to Lewis roofing would technically be insurance fraud. You can contact your insurance adjuster and confirm this information if you would like. Now,  if the insurance company didn't pay you this invoice amount then we would need to see what they did pay you and we can go back to them for the difference.

      Complaint: ********

I am rejecting this response because: I have spoke with Darrell, a representative of Lewis Roofing, and he is going to contact AAA insurance to discuss having them pay the bill. This was the first communication I have received from them. Please note that I have never received a breakdown of the cost of their service as I have requested and to which I am entitled by law. I pointed this out to them and noted that I cannot understand why the cost of putting patches on the roof is higher than the roof repair. I do want to pay them a reasonable amount for their service and I am open to negotiating this. I am also willing to give Darrell an opportunity to negotiate with my insurer. He indicated that he feels that FL law requires the insurer to pay for emergency repairs outside of the deductible and if this is the case then the matter can easily be resolved. In the meantime, I request that my case remain open until we reach a mutually agreeable solution.

      Sincerely,

After the hurricane in September, Lewis roofing gave me a report on the condition of my roof. They said I needed a new roof they would help me with my insurance company and put a new tile roof on to replace the damaged one. they would be here when the adjustor was here so we would all be on the same page. Sounded good so I arranged everything, On the scheduled day they failed to show up. I called and was told his phone got wet or something and he didn't remember the appointment. I found the insurance company easy to deal with so I just proceeded without their help. Now in January 2023 I received a letter telling me they were putting a lien on my property for non payment of roof repairs. The charge was for $2200. They did no repair. In fact no repair has been done yet by anyone. When I called them they wanted to send pictures.. which they did not do. This is a scam targeting older people. It feels very wrong. The language of the letter was very intimidating. I want to go on record that they are doing this.

We went to Mrs ******** house on October 4th because she called us to tarp her roof. We did temporary repairs and she signed a contract for us to be paid by her insurance company. She was indeed paid for these temporary repairs and never paid us for the work we did. I have an entire file of all communications I can share more of necessary.  If Mrs Johnson does not pay we will file the lien for non payment.
