on June 23 2024 I received a letter posing as a Federal / State agency saying that I need to pay $87.25 to received certificate of status for a newly opened LLC. I looked pretty convincing but after one week and no other communications, I started calling and no one picked up the phone, I also search for the business address, and it comes up to a UPS store or a plaza of some sort. I been trying to contact them to get a refund with no avail.Initial Complaint

This Company sent a letter which appears to be from the state of **, with a seal and a Tallahassee address. It makes it appear that you need to order a Certificate of Status through them at $87.25, when actually you can get it directly through the state for $5. They state IN VERY SMALL WRITING that they are not a government agency, but it is easily overlooked because of the size. They are scam artists and this practice should be illegal (if it isn't already).Initial Complaint

Business Compliance Division is a name designed to confuse and mislead. Although it mentions it is not a government agency, this font is small and easily overlooked. We sent a check # **** for $87.25 for a Certificate of Status for: **** *** ***** * ***** ***. It was negotiated. This company was applied for; but never authorized by the state. Prior to knowing this, we received their request for payment and indicated a potential fine if we not comply.Customer response

I heard from the company. They said a refund will be send within 48 hours.

The company did refund my money $87.50 with a Post Office Money order and sent it by overnight mail at a cost of $30.00.
