It sounds easy, but don't click the link! These survey scams have a variety of tricks. The link may lead to a real survey, which upon completion, prompts you to sign up for a "free trial offer." Victims reported to BBB Scam Tracker that they entered their credit card information to pay what they thought was a shipping fee. Instead, the scammers billed them many times more and never sent the product. In other versions, the form is actually a phishing scam that requests banking and credit card information.
Just because scammers are currently impersonating Pfizer, doesn't mean the other COVID-19 vaccine producers are off the hook. Watch out for variations claiming to be from Janssen and Moderna, too.
How to Spot a Survey Scam:
In general, it's best not to click on links that come in unsolicited emails. Here are some more ways to spot a malicious email just in case your spam filter doesn't catch it.
- The email claims to have information about you, but you never signed up for it. Scams often pretend to be personalized for you, but they are actually blast emails. Don't fall for this! If you never signed up for emails from a company, you shouldn't be receiving them.
- Pushes you to act immediately: Scammers typically try to push you into action before you have had time to think. Always be wary of emails urging you to act immediately or face a consequence.
- Watch for typos, strange phrasing and bad grammar. Scammers can easily copy a brand's name, but awkward wording and poor grammar are typically a giveaway that the message is a scam. For example, one version of the survey scam impersonating Pfizer uses the wrong company logo.
- Hover over URLs to reveal their true destination. Typically, the hyperlinked text will say one thing, but the link will point somewhere else. Make sure the links actually lead to the business's official website, not a variation of the domain name.

I received a text message on 11/28/21 purporting to be from Home Depot asking me to fill out a survey in order to receive a free product. After completing the survey online, I was directed to a page where I could choose a free item. I chose the Top Buds (bluetooth earbuds) and then was asked if I wanted additional items. I did not want another item, but mistakenly selected a Smart Watch. All emails regarding my purchase came from the email address ****@gadgetsurplus4u.com. The items cost $9.99 and $7.85 respectively and the cost was for shipping only. The charges show up on my credit card statement as ebonlinestore.com and myblossomstore.com respectively. I received the items in early December. On 12/15/21, I received another email from ****@gadgetsurplus4u.com indicating there was a charge of $97.57. I called the phone number, 877-497-1104, listed at the bottom of the email and spent the next 20+ minutes answering the same questions at least 4 times while trying to explain the problem and I think I may have been passed off to 4 different people while on the phone. One representative told me that the TopBuds were for a 14 day trial before purchasing. There was nothing on the order page or in the follow-on emails that indicated this was a trial and that the item should be shipped back within 14 days if not wanted. I finally received an address to return both items and the representative, Annica, assured me I would be refunded the total amount I was charged ($115.41). Return address provided was: Customer Care Return, Top Buds, Attn: Shipping Department, PPO Box 15911 Tampa, FL 33684. I was also provided a return authorization number: *********. Today, 12/16/21, I reviewed my credit card statement and pending charges. There was another charge of $99.69 from myblossomstore.com, presumably the full cost for the Smart Watch. I am wary of sending the items back as I do not believe I will receive the requested refund. I would like a refund for the amount charged: 215.10.
