In mid-December, I called Jim Howard Plumbing and ordered two high-rise toilets to replace the two standard toilets in my house. A copy of his work order/invoice is attached. On December 22, Jim Howard's son and helper came and installed two toilets smaller than the ones to be replaced. I had no choice but to pay the amount since it was too late in the day to replace the toilets. Since then, I have tried to no avail to get the small toilets out of my house and install the high-rise toilets I ordered.and paid $1,584.45 for.Business response

Business Response /* (1000, 12, 2022/02/18) */ Contact Name and Title: JIM HOWARD PLUMBING, INC Contact Phone: XXX-XXX-XXXX Contact Email: *****************@hotmail.com PLEASE SEE ATTACHED FILES. INCLUDED ARE : -COMPLAINT LETTER -LETTER TO BBB -COPY OF CONSUMER'S INVOICE FROM JIM HOWARD PLUMBING -WHOLESALE INVOICE OF MATERIALS TO COMPLETE MS ********** WORK ORDER Consumer Response /* (3000, 18, 2022/04/06) */ I requested two high-rise toilets to replace toilets in two bathrooms. I never mentioned "ADA" toilets (actually don't know anything about them). He quoted a price of $1,584.45, which is an exorbitant price for the toilets installed. I was given one invoice for the toilets, no ballpark bids. Jim Howard said he came to my house (HE DID NOT!).and installed two toilets, which were smaller than the ones he removed. His son and helper actually did the job. Jim Howard said he hung around 15 minutes conversing with me, which he did not. I told the son they were smaller than the ones removed, but he had no comment. I did not hear from Jim Howard until I called him several times about removing the "kiddy" toilets and replace them with the high-rise toilets I requested. Jim Howard stated that all of this work was completed before 10:00 am! I wrote the check for the full amount (which was a joke) and they (son and helper) left; it was well past 10:00. I had been in the hospital in late November and did not feel well for two or three weeks after. I would be satisfied with a refund of $1,200, although this whole job was grossly overcharged. Jim Howard is not the honest, capable, and reliable plumber he was 25 years ago. I would not recommend him to anyone on this planet! Sincerelly, ********* M. ******** (Phone XXX-XXX-XXXX) . Business Response /* (1000, 22, 2022/04/21) */ BBB Case # XXXXXXXX Response to Ms. ********'s rebuttal: 1. Ms. ******** requested "High Rise" toilets. Originally, toilets taller than the standard 14.5" rise were called ADA Toilets due to their creation under the American's with Disabilities Act of 1994. The stigma of being designated "ADA" over the years has caused the terminology in advertising to change and they are now called many things. High rise, Comfort height, Chair height, and ADA height all refer to the same classification of toilets approximately 16.5" tall to the rim height. 2. Ms. ******** states that she was only given an invoice upon completion of the work with no ballpark bids. This is blatantly false. I gave Ms. ******** a ballpark bid of $1600.00 over the phone on the previous day, to which ******** agreed and I scheduled the job the next day. 3. It's true that I, Jim H., did not personally perform the work in this instance, nor did I ever claim to. The original rebuttal to this complaint is a verbatim accounting provided by my son, Brian a Licensed plumber in his own, that performed the work with a helper. At no time did Ms. ******** indicate displeasure with the toilets supplied or the workmanship received. Had she done so, Brian would've immediately worked to correct the issue by either explaining to Ms. ******** that the toilets we installed are the "High Rise" ADA height, or by re-installing her old toilets prior to disposing of them. 4. Ms. ******** states that she did not hear from me until after "Calling several times about removing the kiddie toilets". This too, is blatantly false. Ms. ******** did not contact me or my office until a couple weeks later to complain. Upon this first complaint I received, I went to her residence at my earliest availability to discuss the issue at hand, face to face. 5. When I arrived at Ms. ********'s residence she told me she felt that I had installed smaller or undersized toilets. She asked me to remove the toilets that I had installed. Not wanting to leave a woman in her 80's without functional toilets, I told her that if she found toilets that were taller than what I had installed, I would swap out the toilets free of charge. She indicated that someone had brought her two toilets from a local home improvement store. I showed Ms. ******** that the two "new" toilets were the same size as the two that my company had installed. 6. I take great offense to Ms. ********'s assertion that I am "not the honest, capable, and reliable plumber I was 25 years ago". Ms. ******** has been a long time customer for decades. She called me and made a specific request to which, I provided an immediate bid that she accepted and which we fulfilled within a 24 hr. turnaround. Apr 21, 2022 @ 03:51pm
