I purchased a remanufactured transmission September 2024 from Street Smart and got less than 300 miles out of it before it started spewing transmission fluid. I called the warranty line and nobody called back in 2 hours. I called the main number and was told my truck has to be IN the shop and I said it was. After a week nobody ever called me back. I called them again and they told me I needed to start a claim when I already did file 7 days prior. Another 4 days later they called my mechanic and said they need pictures. Now I'm waiting for my mechanic to have an open lift to remove the bad transmission they sold me and know it. So I have NO truck that I make my living with for almost 2 weeks now. This is a horrible company that advertises lies on their website. A licensed mechanic told them it's a bad transmission, but instead of doing right by the customer and sending a replacement they're playing games and costing me my living.

We received the warranty claim from the customer and have asked the repair shop for photos so we can confirm the next steps. Sometimes fluid venting is related to overfilling, so we want to rule that out before sending a replacement unit. Will advise next steps once we receive photos. We did contact DJ's Transmission (the repair shop) on Friday but the person who answered the phone did not want to note the callback or claim number, so we attempted contact again first thing Monday morning.

I bought a transmission and experienced problems within a year so I put in a warranty claim which they claim is zero hassle... Well I experienced the complete opposite, they took numerous approaches at why it shouldn't be approved then guess what it wasn't mainly because that's the target not to approve it. You've been warned the place doesn't stand behind their products never again will I use this shady place

The total repair for the bad transmission sensor is ****** I do have them on a recorded line at the Acura dealership they made the call prior to the work being preformed on the vehicle, at the time of call only a diagnostic was initiated which I called previously in the week and was told I can bring it anywhere I want just inform them of where the vehicle is. Clearly they know it's under warranty they're simply using a loophole to back out of it which is pretty scummy on their part they definitely lost a repeat customer here

This was done without prior authorization. **** states the customer never informed him the ********************** was under warranty. **** is inquiring about labor and part reimbursement. I informed ********** would have the claims side reach out to him. No further action on our end.

Notes: ************** reached out on case ****** for Inv *******. They were advised by the shop that the repair has already been performed, without authorization. We are not able to assist with this claim due to the repair not being authorized. Bought a $2400 transmission from Street Smart in Oct 23. Recieved transmission. My mechanic uninstalled the original trans that was in my truck and installed Streetsmarts trans. Their trans was broken, (hard shifts, metal shavings in pan/filter), so I requested a refund. Paid my mechanic $800 in labor 3 times due to their broken transmission they sold me. I was told by one of the employees over the phone that they would be so kind to cover labor on one of the bills. Then I spoke to another employee that said they do not cover labor for refunds. I was told 2 different things. I lost out on $2400 just in labor. Plus the $2400 for the trans. Surprisingly they stood by their word for the refund of trans, $2400. But they did not stand by their word to help cover part of the labor. I am in the hole $2,400 because of them. They lack the stand by our product and dignity to help payback some of the money THEY caused a customer to lose. They should pay for at the very least, $50 an hour on the $2400 in labor it cost me. Theyve caused me financial hardship due to their negligent practices. They absolutely did not dyno test their product before sending it to me otherwise it would have worked and if they say otherwise they are lying.

I purchased a transmission in 2018. It had a 5 yr warranty. In Oct 2020 transmission started failing. This company sent a new solenoid to fix problem. In 2021 the transmission started failing again. Company sent a new transmission for my shop to install. Feb 2023 the transmission started failing again. There was 2 months left on warranty. Company sent another transmission to be installed. Transmission started failing again in Sept 2023. Contacted company they said sorry warranty is out. I said a brand new transmission that has less than **** miles that is trash and you wont fix it? Something is wrong with the way you are rebuilding **** 4R100 transmissions. I received no further response from them. It is now going to cost me $3300 to have it properly rebuilt.I realized original warranty is out but the service record should be on file about all the trouble I have had with transmissions from this company. ***************** in ***************** ** ran diagnostics on transmission. Said fluid is burnt and clutch material in fluid on a basically brand new transmission. I would at least like this company to pay for half of the cost of new transmission.

Thank you for your honest feedback! We reviewed your purchase and warranty claim. The transmission was purchased in March of 2020 and had a 3 year warranty until March of 2023. Our last warranty claim shows notes that are related to not swapping the bypass valves/oil cooler assembly at time of replacement, which can cause premature failure of the transmission due to lack of lubrication. At this time unfortunately this transmission is no longer under warranty since it expired 7 months ago.

The amount owed is $425.00 (8.5hrs) at $50/hour. If you prefer, we can pay the shop this amount directly once the warranty unit and repair order are received. Or we can send a check to your address.

We do not offer warranty coverage for time without a vehicle or for rental coverage.

Transmission #5 was just put in my 08 Explorer in just over 2 years. #1 & 2 were reimbursed just $395 in labor cost. 3 & 4 i filed an exception form and eventually was reimbursed the full amount. Now # 5 I can't get any response back at all however $350 was put in a PayPal account. I can only assume that this is the amount approved even though this bill has the added expense of a radiator and trans cooler due to the amount of metal in the system and my mechanic unable to adequately clean the old system out. Full reimbursement of damages caused by defective workmanship of product provided is expected. Warranty period should restart on unit #5 as that is the 1st date of latest unit.

I am rejecting this response because:

I have spent $782.98 to have the radiator and trans cooler replaced due to the amount of metal in the system due to a defective transmission being installed, actually 5 defective transmissions. Two prior transmissions were reimbursed at $395. Did rates go down? State Street covered the entire tab on transmissions #3 and #4 since they can't seem to get a quality part from their rebuilder. I shouldn't have to replace a transmission at my expense every 6 months due to defective workmanship. I expect a refund of $1682.16 as per the invoice sent at time of exception request.

We reviewed the warranty claim and provided an additional 600 today (July 21) via PayPal to customer, over and above our 50/hour warranty coverage. Complaint: 20275680

I am rejecting this response because:

$600 is $182.98 less than what I paid to repair the damage caused by your defective product, as $350 is $549 less than I paid to replace the 5th defective transmission you have provided. $732.16 additional will settle this dispute.

      Sincerely,

      Business response

      07/24/2023

Unfortunately we cannot control the price that auto repair shops charge for transmission installation. We have already provided an additional 600 on July 21 over and above our warranty terms. The additional costs associated with buying a new radiator and cooler are not related to the transmission purchased by us because they are commonly flushed and re-used. If the repair shop was not flushing the radiator and cooler on the previous installations, that is likely the cause of the repeated failures since all of these units were dyno-tested prior to leaving.

      Complaint: 20275680

I am rejecting this response because:
The radiator and cooler was flushed and cleaned every time in the past as verified by the invoices submitted. The installer was not comfortable with the amount of metal in the system and the ability to clean it sufficiently, therefore the need to start new. Let's be clear, it was no doubt your 5 defective transmissions contaminating the system as it was flushed each and every time and your company verified that as part of the warranty process. You have records, maybe you should refer to them instead of throwing out such ridiculous statements. Maybe you should stop doing business with ETE and do your own work.

Order a transmission from street smart. Had it installed at a licensed garage. Months later it's leaking. There's evidence of multiple layers of different colored sealers. Poor workmanship. Now streetsrt wants me to take it to a licensed garage to have it diagnosed and repair. And maybe they'll reimburse me at only $50.00 per hour. And no reimbursement for storage fees. Which I have not control over. Their preferred garage charges $125.00 per hour. And they refuse to return my phone calls trying to resolve this issue.

Originally purchased in August of 2022. The warranty coverage of $50/hour is meant to offset the out of pocket costs for warranty work, not cover it completely. We can evaluate any additional coverage once you have ************ complete and the repair order submitted. Have your vehicle taken to any willing auto repair shop for repairs and contact our warranty department once ready.

I purchased a transmission from Street Smart Transmissions (AKA Speedcotran, **** in late February and immediately began having issues after installation, filing 3 separate claims with them by the end of March. The first claim was for a drain pan damaged in shipping, the 2nd claim for issues with shifting and P0722 error codes on the transmission. The 3rd claim they finally decided to replace the transmission with another rebuilt transmission. This was their decision- I did not request it.The latter two claims required significant labor totaling $4768 for the repairs. To date, they've reimbursed me less than $2500 of these costs that are a direct result of the faulty transmission that they sold me. My ************************************ ******, ** and ********, ** for 5 1/2 weeks- they are fully aware of this as well. We had lengthy delays for parts on back order or problems with the shippers. As a result, I incurred additional expenses including Airbnb for lodging and rental vehicles. I even went as cheap as I could to save expenses. The faulty transmission they sold me has cost me an additional $6200 on top of what I paid for the transmission and labor for the initial installation ($4800)- $11K total.Their customer service on warranty claims has much room for improvement- similar to other complaints, I've had nothing but issues with getting responses regarding my transmission warranty. I've been told my claim is "being handled personally by our owner *****", however he or the other warranty tech have yet to return any of my phone calls regardless how many times I have reached out.I find it very disconcerting that this company refuses to stand behind a customer when they experience so many issues immediately after a purchase. CLEARLY it was an issue with the transmission we were sold as the replacement is finally working as it should. At minimum, I feel it is more than reasonable for ALL of my labor expenses to be reimbursed.

I am rejecting this response.  Yes, you've provided some reimbursement, however as you noted already it is a fraction of what we paid for warranty related expenses.  75$ per hour doesn't even come close to covering labor charges in the ******* area.  In addition, I learned today from ETE that I could have asked for a complete refund this whole time and saved myself $3800 in labor and diagnostic charges out there.  Then I could have gone with a different transmission company altogether.  Now I'm stuck for a FOURTH time in ******** with this latest transmission.  It's overheating because the shift strategies aren't correct and aren't getting programmed right.  FOUR warranty claims since February 20th is BEYOND ridiculous and I should be reimbursed fully for all of my warranty related expenses.

      Sincerely,

      Customer response

      05/22/2023

      Good afternoon,

I've attached several documents, including the requested warranty document. The first time I received a copy of their warranty was after I filed my SECOND claim on March 6, 2023 (note attachment at bottom of email "Warranty claim email (Claim #_ 00077453).pdf".  My original purchase date was 1/24/2023 (see attached receipt "Street Smart Transmission receipt [#****-4074].pdf).

Within my first 37 days of ownership of the transmission, I had to file 3 different claims for it totaling over $8000 in out of pocket repair expenses.

Claim 1 - Filed 2/20/23 for damaged drain pan

Claim 2 - Filed 3/6/23 for warning lights and issues with shifting (replaced the lead frame on transmission in ************, **).  Had to wait 3 1/2 weeks for repairs to be completed.

Claim 3 - Filed 3/31/23 for even worse shifting conditions, false neutrals.  Got stranded in ********, **.  At this point, Street Smart finally decides to send a replacement transmission.  Had to wait 2 weeks for repairs to be completed.

Street Smart left ** stranded for 5 1/2 weeks on the road between repair times in both ******* and *******.  I don't believe it is reasonable for any company to not fully stand by their product for at least 90 days (especially something mechanical like a transmission).  In my case it was literally THIRTY SEVEN days that I experienced all of these issues.  On top of that, every mechanic that I've spoken with believes that some of our issues are a direct result of how Street Smart requires technicians program the transmission (or lack thereof in their case).  They specifically instruct installers to NOT program shift strategies, meanwhile all of the installers I've worked with tell me that's crazy and it needs to be done to ensure the longevity of the transmission.  All 4 of the shops I've worked with to repair this transmission have all stated this.

Please let me know if you have any other questions or need further documentation.

      Kind Regards,

      *********************

I purchased the original transmission for my ****** in September of 2021.Since then, I have had it replaced 3 more times due to faulty transmissions being sent (under warranty). The last one was put in in January 2023 and didn't even leave the mechanics lot. I have had to pay for labor for ALL 4 of these transmission with the exception of 1 that was refunded. They have paid $700 and I'm stuck with paying $1400 more each time. I have called *****+ times in the last year and 5 months and NO ONE has ever returned my call, not even the owner *****. If I can't track someone down, my multiple messages go unanswered. I have been very patient with this company but I am done! They don't care that my daughter is away at college and has no car! They don't care that we have been inconvenienced for over a year. We have had to tow the car from 2 hours away and pay the bill. We have to borrow cars, share cars, etc. I am out thousands of dollars over this fiasco. I want a full refund for every dime I have spent on this car...parts and labor. I want to keep one of the transmissions so I can then pay someone else to rebuild it correctly. Even with this as a solution, I am still not back to whole. I have spent hours and hours trying to get this all straight and still have nothing. I am so irritated with this company and their lack of making this right. I'm more than upset about being blatantly ignored and dismissed by ***** and every other employee there who never called back. It wouldn't be so bad if I had to replace the transmission once, but 4 times.Come on.How can you sell 4 faulty transmissions in a row and then not honor my request to get a refund for everything I'm out so I can go somewhere else? I was told that I had to keep exchanging them out. If I didn't, they would not honor the warranty. At what point to they do the right thing and refund everything. I shouldn't have to keep trying transmission after transmission for however many more times this will occur. Horrible!

I am rejecting this response because:

the $1400 you previously refunded was for the labor exception warranty.  So now youre just going to apply my labor refund to the cost of the transmission.  How horrible.  I have paid $8400 in labor for 4 transmissions.  My total refund so far has been $700 (after you took a $1400 refund for labor and applied it to the actual transmission).  I asked for a complete refund after the second transmission and you refused.  You told me I could only keep exchanging them.  So instead of stopping the bleeding, you cut deeper.  Im out almost $7000 for a car thats not even worth that!
And now you think Im whole after refunding a $1771?  Wow.  I need my labor money back.  Also, you dont even care that I havent had the ability to drive this car for over a year.  Ive left messages for both ***** and ***** (like *****) and NO ONE has EVER called me back.  How is this even acceptable?

It started having problems so the business did send a replacement as per the 3 year warranty and I paid to have this one installed, however it did not last 30 days as it was a bad unit (as confirmed by the dealership). They sent a 3rd transmission which I again had to pay another $1,528.00. Hello, the funds were sent via the original payment method (PayPal), we tried to bring them back but that was not an option. We recommend reopening the PayPal account and you can send the funds to any bank account.

I did not use that PayPal account as a form of payment. I pay with my debit card and as I explained, I dont have a PayPal account they have somebody elses name connected to that account. Already try to set up something to get this resolved, and I was unable to get anything resolved with PayPal. As I stated they should at least called and asked me how did I wanted the payment to be made, I paid for my transmission to being stored off my debit card not off a PayPal account what they are state is when I bought the transmission from the three years ago three years ago I used somebodys a PayPal account its not mine and they sent my refund to a PayPal account and I would appreciate it if they would rather money back and send it to me the check. Thank you.

We have no way of pulling back the funds from PayPal at this time, so there is no way we can send a check. The original payment method we show is PayPal.

Thanks for your honest feedback. The transmission was purchased Dec 17 2019 and has a 3 year warranty which expired Dec 17 2022. A warranty claim does not extend the warranty period.
