I have a vehicle that has been to this dealership four times for the same problem. Three of the times they told me the same part was bad. One of the times they said the air conditioning had a leak and they could not find it and offered no apology. I have spent $1500 on air conditioning repairs for my vehicle at this dealership and the problem persists. They only offered me 10% off of my latest bill even though the same problem has existed for four years. I have tried to resolve my problem through GM corporate however, they are not helping out. I would like to complain against the service department at Days Chevrolet for being unable to fix my problem, and saying the same part needed to be replaced three times.

      Good evening-

******************** visited our dealership with his vehicle during the warranty period for repair concerns with the *** The last expansion valve replacement was at 29k miles in 2021 (under warranty). The current mileage is ****** miles. ** the time frame since 2018, ******************** has only returned to us for an AC system service check in 2023, where we attempted to locate an A/C leak and were unable able to confirm a root causal failure. The vehicle left our dealership operating as designed from the manufacturer. The only other dealership that was visited to my knowledge during the course of the service history was ************************* Chevrolet. For this current repair visit, ******************** had an agreement with us and approved the repairs with his service advisor prior to completion as a customer pay transaction. Now, the repairs are completed, and he is refusing to pay for authorized repairs. The warranty on the original expansion valve was a parts warranty transaction. The warranty expired years ago on the component. I did apply a discount to the invoice regarding this repair as a kind gesture. The total repair equaled $1113.77 before discount. New total is now $1021.45. GM will not extend the warranty for his A/C system. The new warranty on this component will cover him for 24 months, unlimited mileage (nationwide coverage).

8/2020 @ 21k miles *********** of thermal expansion valve under base warranty
8/2021 @ 29k miles *********** of thermal expansion valve under parts warranty
3/2023 @ 46k miles A/C system checked and system operating as designed after performing A/C service ($287 paid by customer after a 10%coupon)
7/2024 @ 56k miles ******* concern. Thermal expansion valve failure again (out of warranty period and 27k miles after parts warranty replacement). GM was contacted and offered the same assistance as we did. We offered a discount on repairs to assist customer with the transaction.

      Complaint: 22018876

I am rejecting this response because:

In regards to refusing to pay, this is not true. At the time of my complaint to the BBB the vehicle had been repaired for several days. During this time I was communicating with ************** about the repetitive nature of my A/C issues and attempting to get ** to assist with the cost. I was told by ** to wait to pickup the vehicle so the ticket would be left open. They said once the ticket was closed and paid they could not assist. I never stated to Days Chevrolet or the ** Executive **sistance Line that I refused to pay. ** is the one that said the ticket needed to be open. I even told ** I would happily pay the bill if they would provide me a warranty going forward for just my A/C System. The communication on **s end was very poor. They routinely didnt answer, said they tried to reach me and said they left voicemails but I never received all of them. My last 2 calls to them went unanswered and not returned. My frustration with ** elevated to the point that I gave up dealing with them. I know this is not Days fault and I dont blame them for something out of their control. I paid the bill and picked up the vehicle on 7/23.
The basis for my complaint about the ****************** stems from them not identifying the root cause of my A/C issues after 4 visits to the service department as they admitted in their response.
In 4 trips to Days for A/C issues they diagnosed the problem of a faulty Thermal Expansion Valve 3 times and a diagnosis of theres and leak somewhere but we cant find it the other time. Those were the exact words of the service writer at the time, *******************. All these issues were in a span of 35K miles. ** a former ** Technician I can state from experience that replacing a Thermal Expansion Valve 3 times in just 35K miles is extremely unusual. I feel the diagnosis is incorrect and believe within a year and 10K miles, as the vehicle history shows, the A/C will once again blow warm.
One issue regarding this complaint is that I believe Days Chevrolet tried to make me look bad by telling the ** Executive **************** that I only bring my vehicle to the dealer for warranty issues because they show no record of regular maintenance. I know this because ** shared some correspondence with me between them and Days. This is insulting. ** a former ** Technician I perform all the routine maintenance that I can do myself and feel that them even mentioning that is unrelated and irrelevant.

I would also like to amend my complaint to include another issue. Although the work was not completed at Days, the technician tried to sell me an additional repair that was not necessary. I discovered this after I arrived home with the vehicle the next day. They said I needed rear brakes. I declined the repair and said I would do it myself. Based on this information the day after I picked up my vehicle I removed and inspected the rear brake pads and discovered they still had approx. 1/2 their life left. I pulled the pads and took side by side photos of the trucks rear pads compared to new ones (new ** pads) and it was clear, even to a layperson, that rear pad replacement was completely unnecessary. Trying to sell something to a customer that is not needed just confirms my realization that I have no faith in the service department at Days Chevrolet.
** for the A/C issues, speaking as a former ** technician, I understand that sometimes problems dont present themselves all the time, sometimes theyre very difficult to discover, sometimes you need a second opinion, possibly a third from other technicians in the shop. Perhaps if this was done, the root cause *** have been discovered, because I still dont believe it has.
Last, I would like to say that communications on the part of Days Chevrolet was also very poor. I was told by one of the service writers that the Service Manager would call me, I never received a call. When I questioned the diagnosis of a third thermal expansion valve, the service writer I spoke with asked if the other 2 were replaced at Days Chevrolet? How could they not know this, they have the history of every time I brought it on their computer. Additionally, several text messages (their preferred method of communication) to the service writer went unanswered.
While I do appreciate the offer of 10% off, I dont feel it was enough given the frequency of the A/C issues. I wouldve been happier if they just charged the system and said we cant find the problem.

      Sincerely,
      ***************************

      07/29/2024

      Good afternoon-
We performed our diagnosis and verified that the thermal expansion valve was leaking. The repairs were quoted and authorized by *******************. Upon completion of the repairs, our technician verified the work done. ******************** has since taken delivery of the vehicle. If GM decides to offer an extended AC component(s) warranty, then our dealership will be more than happy to perform the service warranty repairs on the vehicle as expected.Unfortunately, the component failed and was out of a warranty time period.Component failure is out of dealership control. All GM components come with a nationwide warranty. Due to the customer incurring the repair expense, we applied a discount towards the repair to assist our customer with the overall cost. Our work on this component has a 24-month warranty, parts &labor. This is our final response to this case.

Thank you for your attention to this matter.

      Complaint: 22018876

I am rejecting this response because:

I dont believe Dayss Chevrolet is properly diagnosing my A/C issue. Its extremely unusual for a vehicle to need 3 expansion valves in a span of 35K miles. **** my vehicle was serviced in March of 2023 for warm A/C they said they could not find a Freon leak. While true it did leave the dealer operating as designed, just 10K miles later the A/C was warm again. Approx. 10K miles is consistent with the average mileage between warm air complaints. See details below.

      8-27-20 TXV Replaced  (21,427 miles)

      8-10-21 TXV Replaced  (29,303 miles)

9-15-22 A/C Blowing warm again but circumstances caused a delay to the dealer until March 16, 2023 (****** miles) I explained the circumstances to *******************.

3-16-23 Warm A/C since 9/2022, System Serviced, no leaks found. (****** miles)

      7-10-24 TXV Replaced a 3rd time. (****** miles)

Without taking dates into mind do the math on the mileage between times the A/C was repaired (or just charged) until it started blowing warm again. The average is approximately ***** miles just for Days Chevrolet visits. I did not include the 1st visit to ******** Chevrolet however the mileage is consistent with those listed above.

These details are the reason for my complaint. I don't believe the diagnosis of a leaking TXV three times is correct only time will tell.
As stated above how many vehicles need 3 Thermal Expansion Valves in a span of 35K miles?

Finally, In my last rebuttal about the dealership I mentioned another issue I discovered after I picked up my vehicle. That is, they tried to sell me rear brakes that were not needed. I have the old pads with pictures comparing new to old as proof. The dealership failed to address this in their last reply.

Failure of the dealership to identify the root cause of my A/C issues after 4 visits and trying to sell me something not needed are 2 reasons I will not be returning to the Days Chevrolet Service depart in the future. If my A/C issues continue, which I assume they will, I will seek other repair facilities.
I consider this matter closed WITHOUT a satisfactory compromise.

      Sincerely,
      ***************************

Day's Chevrolet has been in business in ******* since ****. We are not a perfect business, but we have built this business on putting the biggest priority on honesty and doing business the right way. We are confused at ****************** accusation that ***'s did not provide him a copy of the Carfax report. ************** was emailed a full copy of the Carfax report, per his request, on November 2nd at 3:50 pm. He purchased the vehicle the next day. The report states that the vehicle had 2 separate incidents in which "Minor" damage was reported. Secondly, ****************** insurance premiums have nothing to do with this report. The cost to insure a vehicle depends solely on the type vehicle, age, miles, and insured's driving record. Again, there is nothing we can do at this point. We haven't done anything wrong.
