I scheduled an appointment with Mike’s Appliance Repair on ****** to come out and look at my refrigerator. Mike had a pleasant persona and told me his diagnostic fee of $125 also included 1 hour of repair service if he had to come back out to replace a part. Mike diagnosed the problem as being with the run capacitor, which he said was going bad. He told me the part would cost $174.93 and he could repair it at no additional charge. We scheduled the next appointment for *******. Mike came out to replace the part and I paid for it once he finished. He said my refrigerator would begin cooling within the next couple of hours and should get back to normal temperature by morning. The next morning, the refrigerator was no cooler than it had been the previous day. I informed Mike of this via text as this was our primary method of communicating. When I did not hear anything back, I texted again asking if he had any ideas or suggestions for what to do next. That was on ******* and he has still not responded. This experience has been very disappointing, and I feel I was duped. Prior to this, Mike was responsive and now he is not. He told me his work was guaranteed and if the new part did not resolve the problem, he would try to determine what was going on. I trusted what he said, but now I am left wondering if he actually did the job. I try to support small businesses where I can, but this experience has left me feeling jaded and less likely to go with a small business in the future. I have now signed up with a home warranty plan, which is something I’d avoided doing. I cannot use their service for 30 days so not only am I out $299.93, I also have to make other arrangements to eat because I can’t meal prep as I’m used to. What I would like to happen is for my money to be refunded. I do not trust him to come into my home again, given his lack of response and poor professionalism.
