Bought a used car from Island Best Auto. It broke down a few days after purchase. Within those few days, I only used it once more and that was to drive it to the store a few miles from my home. Called ****** and was nice at first offering to bring it to his auto shop in **********. However, it took a month of following up via call and text to just get it finished. On the way from picking it up, it broke down again. ****** offered to fix again but my trust had already been lost. We requested to be made whole and just return the car to get our money back but ultimately nothing happened. I had to borrow money just to get this vehicle and eventually had to borrow $1500 more just to get the repairs professionally done. Though it may sound like he genuinely cares to provide good service, I felt it was only a front. I hope no one else gets burned by his buy as-is clause. We put a lot of trust into Island Best Auto and it will take years just to recover the money we lost on this car. Fast forward 5 months to now, ** still having to pay for continuous repairs on this car.Initial Complaint

Purchased a used mini for $7,500 on 15NOV2022 at 7pm. Less than 58 hours (18NOV2021 at 6:30am) and 50 miles the check engine light came on- assessment for repairs $3K. Was informed by DMV I am unable to register vehicle due to modifications on a notarized document. Ad was posted online (militarycarlot.com), met with ******************, at a gas station- even when asked he never mentioned he worked for Island's Best Auto (owner ***********************), this was not known until transaction. The *********** requires auto salespersons to be licensed, unknonwn if *** is licensed. Island's Best Auto has negative online reviews for selling lemons and leaving the buyer with the problems and out thier money.Customer response

The individual I bought it from was representing the business as shown on the **** of sale. He specifically stated auto dealers can make the annotations he made on a **** of sale, not an individual. The individual is not a licensed auto salesman for a company. If sold individually, and he put his name on the **** of sale, this would be void but because he would have sold it as a person representing himself. However, because he put the businesses name on the **** of sale and he is an unlicensed salesman, this was an illegal transaction.Business response

The customer was very aware of purchasing the vehicle from a licensed dealership from the beginning. We are very opened to have the vehicle inspected by a mechanic prior to purchase and at no point deny 2nd opinion or assistance with having vehicle checked out even after the purchase if some trouble sometimes may occur in used vehicles. The vehicle was sold As Is and there was appropriate paperwork signed by the Cusotmer at the time of purchase. Did the nature that DMVs at Oahu county at times might not be synchronized the Cusotmer had trouble transferring the title which right after we were notified by her , we made an appointment at dealer center main location to have it done correctly and assist her with any trouble she may have. The customer failed to show up to the appointment and called couple days later saying that car check engine light came in and she received an estimate of $3000 to fix the vehicle. Being that we are used car dealers we are very aware that big brand name dealership charge way higher labor rate and parts rate comparing to others shops. To make sure our customer service is at its best we asked the Cusotmer to rent us st a verified mechanic shop and let us get 2nd opinion and be of help to attend to the issue. The Cusotmer never responded and followed up month and a half later with over lawyer calling our office and presenting false accusations as far as our doings. Also the customer filed couple complaints with **** which governs used car licensing and was denied both times as there was no licensing issues or laws broken on our end with transaction and our service we provide . We tried contacting the lady again to help and assist with those two maters but she never responded until making a phone call to us recently and being very vulgar and not allowing us to speak or reason with her about her troubles she is having. Very bad attitude on her end and we have never been a business to deny help to our Cusotmers!

I am rejecting this response because: ****** is falsifying information and misconstruing the facts he is getting secondhanded. The seller only said I sell cars never once mentioning he represented a dealer until I saw dealers name on the siding paperwork. Not being able to register car with DMV was due to modifications they made to a notarized document. I notified *** the same day, 7 days (to include a weekend) the check engine light came on (< 50 miles of driving) repairs were at $3k, and unable to register car. I notified *** I would not be making it to the appointments he scheduled per advice of lawyer. Worked with a lawyer when filling **** complaints; 1 complaint denied, 1 complaint valid- car salesman not licensed. Finally got ahold of owner, he refused to buy the car back, offered to help get it registered. I sternly refused his help on the basis of his past unethical business practice.Sincerely,

Better Business Is nothing other than money hungry instigators. Just another way of providing jobs to incompetent people to manage others livehood! TerribleI have explained more than once that the lady purchased the vehicle as ismeaning no lemon law or any other exclusions and also explained to the lady that our third world dmv is not so enhanced and dealer center would be the place to do the title transfer nothing but refusal on customers side yet BBB still yet instigates and asks for numerous repeated request zero emphasis on company and its values very one sided and not listening or talking into considerations our response yet another liberal lefty money hungry and attention seeking instigator nothing to explain Cusotmer is defiant and doesnt want to adhere to the laws of hawaii very defiant typical ***** BBB what a shame hopefully everyone wakes up and let this phony company go and deal with business more serious very sad that *** still yet would allow for such incompetent companies have say so especially when dealing with **************** very pathetic watch out for them and the Karens !!! Of the lady doesnt stop harassing our company we will file deformation of character law suit against her and BBB to teach them a ****** of Harassment!!! What a shame
