My daughter had a surgical procedure on February 22nd this year. In the months prior to the procedure, she needed to have a consult and a parent there since she is a minor. Her father covers her medical expenses. We do not have a court order, he claims her on their taxes. I accompanied my minor child to her consult because their website states a minor needs to be present for all consults and procedures. The website does not state the parent accompanying the child is the automatic financial guarantor. At the time of check-in, I shared I am not the financial guarantor, her father is and they proceeded to check me in. When they offered the breakdown of the expenses when the surgery will take place on February 22nd, I stated, again, that I am not the financial guarantor, I stated I will not sign and they offered they would have her father sign since his insurance is aligned with her account, and the stepmother has signed financial agreements. On Friday, February 18th, I called and spoke to a billing specialist before the procedure was to take place to confirm I am not the financial guarantor. They confirmed at that time I am not. In April I received a bill from the procedure for ~400.00. I called and inquired why because of the following: 1. I have not signed any financial agreements or obligations 2. Her stepmother has signed the financial agreements 3. I called the Friday before the procedure to confirm I am not the gaurataot and they confirmed at that time I am not. I called on 4.26.22 where *****, another billing specialist confirmed they have noted my phone call on Friday 2.18 where it was confirmed I am not the financial guarantor. When I spoke to the office manager, ******, on 5.20.22, she stated the child's father is refusing to pay, and even though the stepmother signed the financial obligation paperwork, and I was confirmed not to be the financial guarantor, they need to bill both parents since we do not have a court order.
