We hired ***************************** to be the General Contractor to remodel our newly purchased home. We signed the contract on April 3, 2021. He signed the Building Permit Application as a ** on March 30, 2021. He asked us repeatedly to wait for him to renew General Contractor License although we offered to obtain the Permit with the Owner as **. We tried to work with him and waited until we could not wait anymore because it was taking too long.We finally got the Permit with us as ** on May 21st, only to find out on June 15th that he had been applying to renew his business license instead of the ** license. We called the **************** and found out that there was no record of him or his company ever having a ******* ** License. We had wasted over a month for nothing. He intentionally delayed the project.After realizing we were not going to be able to work for him we fired him June 16th. We asked him for a detailed invoice of what we owed him and he just sent us an invoice for about 50% of what was left in the contract. No accounting of how he arrived to that number other than later admitting it had nothing to do with the actual work left to do, that it was just 70% of the total contract. We had already paid more than 70%. We have gone by the amounts in the contract we signed with him and the work that was left to do at the time we fired him (floors, kitchen installation, carpentry work, fixing up issues, etc...) and we told him we did not agree with his number. He does not admit to any wrong doing and does not acknowledge any of the reasons why we fired him. His lying about his license and his bad management skills scheduling his subs delayed the project and caused us emotional and economical stress as we had to find accommodations because the house was not finished in a timely manner.We have asked him repeatedly for a detailed Invoice of what we owe him and he just threatens us with a Lien on our House. We refuse to pay for work he did not do.
