July 30, 2022: Brought boat to South End Boat Shop in *********, ** to have the water pump fixed. Was told it would cost $400. I was contacted an hour later that due to it being more labor intensive, the price would be $600. I agreed to the price and told them to fix it. August 2, 2022: I was contacted by the shop and told my boat was ready to be picked up. I asked how much it was, thinking about taxes being added on. The owner, *******************, told me it would be $1,220.00. I told him that was not the price I was told nor agreed on to fix my boat. ************ did not care and it was "pay or you don't get your boat." I told him I would be reporting him and gave my debit card to pay. ************ would not take my payment and insisted I give him cash. This business accepts cards and never has it been said (or posted) "cash only." I argued with him and I believe it was his daughter working there who tried to explain the card is a form of payment they do accept. He yelled some choice words at her and demanded cash or no boat. I had to go to my bank and withdraw that amount, which I have documented in the memo of the cashed check that it was for South End Boat Shop and received a terribly written paid receipt from ************. South End Boat Shop was never given permission to to fix my boat for $1,220.00. I called around and found that the average cost was for $600. That is why I agreed to it. ************ used held our boat for ****** to obtain cash until I paid. This was over double the amount quoted. I would like $620.00 back that was the amount over the agreed amount and that I was forced to pay to get my boat back.
