I contacted **** from Anything Wood Refinishing in December of 2021. I was provided a quote of $550 to refinish a vintage desk. I accepted the quote and gave **** the desk and $250 cash deposit. In return I received a written contract dated 12/27/21 with the receipt of the cash deposit noted. Over the next year I contacted **** several times about the desk he had stated that there was a fire in his building and that the desk survived the fire, and that he would finish it. Multiple times I was told by **** that the desk was either close to being finished or that it was finished, however I was never able to retrieve the desk. He always had some sort of excuse. This went on throughout the year. My partner then reached out to **** via phone and texts to get an update and she received the same elusive answers - she would ask for updates and always be told it was in progress or almost done. On February 27th my partner sent him a text asking to resolve the issue within 10 days. There was no response. On March 9, 2023 we had enough. We texted **** asking for an update and return of the desk and to close out this issue. **** responded with Absolutely, I want to get this resolved, yet provided no additional information. We responded in text with We look forward to your update. Should we not receive the information to get this resolved today, we will assume that you are not intending to fulfill the contract or return the desk and deposit. We have not received any responses **** has taken our desk and money and has zero intentions of resolving this. Based on other BBB reports it seems to be how he operates. We would like our desk and deposit back. If the desk was damaged in the fire or by ****, then we would like reimbursement on the cost of the desk and our deposit returned. Either way, we want to resolve this issue and be made whole again.Initial Complaint

My concern is with Anything Wood Refinishing and its owner, ****. I had 6 doors and 109 pieces of trim to strip. The original contract, 8/12/27, was open ended because he had no idea what he was getting into. I paid him $875, half of the estimated total, as a deposit. On 9/20/22, we agreed to get some of the done pieces out of his shop. When we got there, he told me he needed $750 for another barrel of stripper to complete the job. He told me he was out of money to pay his employees. I believed him and foolishly paid him $1625 for the barrel and the rest of the original contract after **** assured me that was all he needed to complete the job. On 10/10/22, I texted **** to see if I could pick up some of the order. He said I could pick up the trim, but he still had some of the doors to do. **** told me when we got to his shop that he decided he could not do the 10 long pieces of trim because his tank was too short. He told me the Fire ******** had given him 30 days to vacate his premises. He said he had enough time to finish the 2 remaining doors. After I asked for a refund, he offered me $100. I refused it because I knew it was way too little. When I got home with the unstripped long boards, he called me at 7:30 pm and said he was closed by the Fire ******** after a fire just happened, and I needed to come back and get my last 2 doors. He left them outside the locked and closed door of his business.Based on his original figures and adjusted proportionately for the extra $750, I would like a $600 refund. After I told him I might go to Small Claims Court he offered to let me bring all the pieces back and he texted, Ill go see what I could do to get it done. He says the Fire Marshal has let him go back to work. I have already made other arrangements for completing the unfinished work and have urgency to complete it for the contractor remodeling my home.Initial Complaint

I have an antique table that is a family heirloom. I met **** from Anything Wood Refinishing on 7/6/22 and signed a contract for the work for $375 and half down ($187.50) which I paid on that date. After about a month in early August he left me a voicemail that my table was back from repairs. Waited until early October and had to call and text numerous times when he called on Monday 10/10 stating there had been a fire in the building near his shop and he couldnt get in to work. Called me again on Thursday the 14th stating he was back in his building and was dedicating the day to finishing my table and that it would be done that day or for sure on Friday the 15th. I have not heard from him since even though I have called, texted, and emailed numerous times. I went to his building last Friday afternoon and again this morningstill no response to calls/texts. He is totally unresponsive to any contact and does not do what he says he will. It is approaching 4 months and I want my table back finished or not. If not done I would also like a refund of the $187.50 I have already paid. I appreciate your assistance with this matter. Please contact me for any questions or additional information.
