I am billed monthly membership of $49.99 for a gym membership that no longer has a valid 2 year contract. Ive called several times to cancel and get some repayment as I havent been to that gym in years. I usually speak to a trainer, never the office manager who it turns out I have to cancel with. *** left the office manager several voicemails indicating I want to cancel and he returned on call, of which he left a voicemail to call him back. I did, several times and he has NOT returned one call. I am told I must cancel with him in person. Since he has not called to give me a date or time he is in gym, I just want this matter resolved as Ive been billed $49.99 for at least 3 years of gym membership I havent leveraged. And they are making it impossible to cancel!Initial Complaint

I had a injury and was advised by my doctor not to do anything to cause further injury Including going to the gym. I reached out to anytime fitness of Streamwood and advised them of this. I was told by the manager to submit a doctor not indicating this in which I did. I sent it via email while speaking with the manager she confirmed it was received and cancelled the membership. She did not cancel the charges for the trainer which was $38.48 billed by weekly which totaled $615 over the course of months. I have since tried to dispute the charges with the gym and get the charges stopped. Anytime fitness refuses to issue me a refund and said they will instead give me a credit toward the gym. The manager then advised me that the reason they cant issue a refund is because the membership had not been cancelled back on April 25 instead it was sent to collections and that there was a balance of well over the $577.20 they owe me due in collections that they would apply it to. They said there was a additional $17.99 I should have been billed for for gym access that was sent to collection. It is not my fault as a consumer that the gym failed to properly cancel the membership and trainer charges. The gym is holding me at fault for their mistake and refusing to refund me all or even a portion of whats owed. They told me their billing department has tried to reach us on several occasions but this is not true I have phone records and there is no incoming calls or voicemails from *** financial (their billing department) this gym fraudulently charged me for months without me knowing considering I thought the membership was cancelled upon a verbal confirmation I received from a manager on duty back in april. *** recently been speaking with a manager named *** who also confirmed that he as well saw in their system where my account should have been cancelled back in April as well he to was unsure why trainer charges still were being charged. 15 charges of $38.48 totaling $577.20Initial Complaint

*** tried canceling my membership with this location for the last 6 weeks after I moved out of the state in early August. I sent an email notifying them of my cancellation request on 9/13/2022 (30 days prior to renewal as agreed) and received a phone call back from the manager while at work and called back less than 1 hour later. I was never able to get in contact with the location again. I have called the facility at least 15x over the last 6 weeks attempting to get in contact with the ** of the facility without any returned phone calls, Ive called other departments in the location with no response once transferred to the correct department, Ive contacted other gyms in the same general location asking for assistance and have not received a call back, I contacted the Anytime Fitness corporate office and was told I needed to contact the location itself and they were unable to help me, *** contacted my bank who says Ill need to change bank accounts to get the charges to stop (which Ive had for over 15 years now) and will soon be doing if this matter is not resolved. I emailed the location a couple times regarding 4 unscheduled charges from this location to my account in September and never received any response or indication as to why I was double charged. Ive filled out their customer feedback surveys for the specific location with no response even though Ive provided all of my contact information and times to reach me. I need reimbursement for the double charging and any payments theyve processed since 10/12/2022 when my membership was supposed to end. Theyve been extremely unprofessional and negligent and I am at the point where I am considering pursuing legal action due to their negligence.
