On May 25th of 2022, I purchased "Skittles Freeze Pops", made and distributed by the Jel Sert Company. I was excited to eat them, because I am (was) a big fan of Skittles candy as well as Otter pops. I took them home and let them freeze, and around five hours later, took them out to a friend's pool so we could all enjoy a cool snack as we swam. About three minutes after consuming them, I almost passed out, and could not swim to the side of the pool. FORTUNATELY for me, both my husband and his friend were there to grab me and pull me out before I drowned. After realizing what was happening, my husband quickly got me to drink a soda and munch on some hard candy. It turned out, I was having a severe hypoglycemic reaction to the Freeze Pops. Unbeknownst to me, they contain both sucralose and acesulfame potassium, which are ARTIFICIAL SWEETENERS. At NO place on the packaging does it say that this was a low-sugar, diet, zero sugar or any other description that would warn me that it may contain artificial sweeteners. I am EXTREMELY sensitive to these chemicals, and always make sure that I avoid anything labeled "diet" or "low sugar" etc. I contacted the company, and they referred me to their insurance company. That company denied my claim. I would like several things to happen here. I feel that I am entitled to some kind of compensation due to this horrific experience, and I also feel Jel Sert should properly label this product as a low-sugar or diet product, to properly warn people of it's artificial sweetener content. My condition is not that rare, and people need to be advised about the artificial sweetener content before they buy and consume the product. Jel Sert needs to take accountability for my experience and their negligence. I expect to speak to their ATTORNEY, not their insurance company at this point. My next step is to take significant legal action.
