I paid the company on 6-30-23 to move my items from my home to a storage unit which was only a 5 minute drive . I was quoted a price of ******* . When I received the bill I was charged 700. The movers were informed by the storage unit manager to let me know the unit would possibly need to be upgraded in size before trying to force all of my items into the storage. They carelessly three items into the unit unsafely and in any manner . Things were stacked unstable, way too high for safety. And several of my items and furniture was damaged. I submitted a complaint with photos and the refused to pay for damages or refund and of my money. I had to pay for an additional unit to move my items and pay two more movers to properly move the items and still have items with damaged because college movers refused to pay.Business response

Hello,
Unfortunately, there were no claims that were within our policies, or even outside of our policies that we could reasonably justify any of the claims made. The customer had reserved a storage unit with a self storage company that was large enough to accommodate all of her items if packed tightly. The team did so and was able to load all of the items into the unit without any issues or complaints from the customer. Five days after the move the customer went back to the storage unit to retrieve some items and became frustrated at how full the unit was given the size of the storage unit and volume of items that had to be placed inside. She was not happy there was not a walkway created inside the unit so she could retrieve items easily, but this was not possible for our team to create with the amount that needed placed inside. No items were damaged during the move or unloading process, but may have been damaged days later when the contents were rearranged by the customer.

On 12/1/2021, I paid College Movers & Junk Hauling to load my belongings from my apartment into two U-Pack storage units. Prior to my move, the company gave me two quotes between which they expected my final cost to fall (based on inventory and a description of the move). Low-end quote: $135 total; high-end: $180 total. Prior to the move, I emphasized to CM&JH that I lived on the 3rd floor of an apt. complex with no elevator. I specified this was an interior-facing apartment, with several heavy doors the movers would have to go through.Moving day: two young men arrived. I showed them the apartment and loading space (pods). They spent 20 minutes deciding if they'd need a moving truck (which they didn't have), and were initially unsure if they could complete the job. They didn't have basic equipment -- no door stoppers, no dolly. They had to call their coworkers to bring a dolly, which took close to an hour. The two workers were nice, with a good attitude, but in over their heads. They didn't have the equipment or the experience--no knowledge of how to load items. They made little effort to secure items in the pods. Didn't mention or suggest using blankets or anything. The total cost of the load, without tip, came to $225, at least $45 more than I would have paid had they brought vital equipment (doorstoppers, dolly). Also, due to college movers inexperience and lack of due diligence, my belongings were improperly and insecurely loaded, and many suffered substantial damage when the pods traveled, as a direct result. I followed up w/ CM&JH, asked how to initiate a claim, showed photos of the damage. They denied accountability due to the nature of the service being a load, and refused a path to file a claim. Loading was their singular job (by their own account). They loaded items improperly and insecurely, demonstrated a lack of experience and equipment, and should replace/reimburse when damage consequently occurs. $545 damage total + $45 loading overcharge = $590Business response

We are very sorry to hear there were any issues with the customer's move. We do have a limit of liability for articles transported and unloaded by another company. While our teams will do everything they can to load the items into a rental container, we are not able to guarantee the quality with which the container was picked up and dropped off, transported across country, unloaded, and the materials provided by the rental container company such as moving blankets for furniture protection, straps for securing the contents inside, etc. While the total cost for the load was more than projected, this was unfortunately due to the large distance from the customer's apartment to the area the rental container company had dropped the unit. The long walking distance, even with moving tools, adds a substantial amount of time to a move.
