Took the ********** to the **** *********** on in New Albany, IN: worn belt and alternator. Replaced the belt but not the alternator b/c its under warranty with Mr Transmission of Clarksville. Took vehicle to Mr T. Got the message the problem was the A/C Compressor, not the Alternator. Was given a verbal quote around $1300 for A/C Compressor. Took the vehicle back to ** to look again, they said it was alternator, not the ac compressor. Master technician noted that the alternator was the source based on sound and touch. Called Mr T with the update: ** did agree that the compressor was making noise, but was not the issue, but noted, again that it was the alternator and I asked Mr T to honor the warranty and replace the alternator. He said, 1. ** is a tire store, 2. They don’t have real mechanics, and 3. He would not do that work because there was nothing wrong with the alternator. Took the vehicle back to ** to replace the working AC Compressor since **** wouldn't work on the alternator and I refused to spend over $1000 to get the unnecessary repair. After $850, the AC Compressor was replaced, but the noise remained. Took car back to Mr T to replace warrantied alternator first thing. Picked up the car and started the car and the sound was gone because the alternator was replaced. It was and is very frustrating to diagnose an issue only to be told that it was not what I said, or what others have said. I am not sure if it is hubris or what, but this misdiagnosis cost me $850 for a repair that would have been free (he did, ultimately replace the alternator under the warranty, but not until AFTER I had to spend money on an AC Compressor that was working). Refusing to do work on the warrantied alternator and double down on a misdiagnosis is unacceptable. I would expect recompense for the situation, but highly doubt this would ever happen. No need to call back, I won't be returning unless it is a warranty issue.Business response
