In early March, 2022, I met with ***************************** of Helwig Construction to get a proposal to replace the fence in my back yard. We agreed on a price of $3,696, I accepted his proposal, and gave him a deposit of $1,848. I subsequently asked him to add a gate on the side of my house & remove fencing from my backyard neighbor, which increased the contract by $650 to a total amount of $4,346.The fence was to be 8 feet tall; steel posts; set in concrete. Finally, the week of March 21, 2022, he and his crew arrived to do the project. I was not onsite during the removal and construction of the fence, which took two days.I made the mistake of paying the contractor the balance before the project was complete. He asked if I would since he was going out of town. I paid him with good faith that the job would be done correctly.These are some of the deficiencies noted that I asked to be corrected.1.The fence posts are not secure or stable.2.I could confirm only one post being set in concrete, even though all posts are supposed to be set in concrete. 3.There were holes left around all the posts. I.e., post holes were not backfilled.4.The fence is not stable.5.The fence is not securely attached to the metal posts.6.The gate by the shed will not easily close/latch.7.The gate on the side of the house will not close; scrapes the ground; is not level; and wood blocks have been shoved on the back side of the gate and are not secured to the gate.Except for coming back to add 3 short posts, which are not set in concrete and have no caps, but are bracketed to the rails, he has been non-responsive to all the above concerns.I contacted the contractor, multiple times via text and phone messages, since the completion of the install in March 2022, explaining my concerts and asking him to remedy the problems. Since he has been non-responsive and has performed poor quality work; I want a refund of 25% of the amount paid so I can have the project properly completed.Business response
