I paid Author Reputation Press (ARP) $3500 on 8/27/2024 for a marketing service aimed at producing an advertisement in the magazine, Christianity Today (CT), for a book I wrote and that *** had agreed to publish. I was convinced to spend the money by ****** ********* in a series of phone calls on the evening of 8/26/2024. ****** identified himself as a founder of *** and claimed that he had spoken to the Board of Directors of ** and had convinced them to run an advertisement for my book in the next issue, and that he urgently needed the $3500 to finalize the deal. He claimed that he and I would have to co-sign a contract with CT for the advertisement in the immediate future. I never received such a contract. Instead, I was sent a contract exclusively with *** the following day for a marketing campaign, which listed Christianity Today and my book in the official receipt. On 9/5/2024, I sent an email to **** *******, the Marketing Fulfillment Officer of ***, inquiring about the status of the ad and the supposed contract with CT. **** replied that *** had sent the book information to CT and that *** was awaiting feedback. After ****** ********* tried to sell me another service using similar high-pressure sales tactics, I became suspicious and called the ************************* myself on 9/26/2024. The ** staff member I spoke to said they had no record of *** as a customer of theirs, and that the issue in which the ad was supposed to appear had already been published. On 9/27/2024 I then demanded my $3500 back from *** and then received a series of emails from ****** **** of ARP, who admitted on 9/30/2024 that CT had disowned ARP and was no longer accepting their calls. ****** then tried to sell me other services in place of the original marketing service. I declined any replacement service and demanded my money back by *** 10/4/2024. I have not received any pledge from the company to return my money to this day.Customer response

In August, 2023, I contracted with Author Reputation Press for the publication and printing of my book, "I Am Baptized". The publication process took very long and kept being delayed by *** and the agent with whom I had been working was subsequently terminated by *** for, among other things, over-promising authors and perpetrating fraud, I was told. I terminated my relationship with *** in February, 2024 because of these delays and am now requesting a refund for services not rendered. They include the following:DATE AMOUNT SERVICES NOT DELIVERED 9/11/2023 $5499.00 Service contract for ************ interview with ***** ******** 11/29/2023 $930.00 (down-payment) Elite Press Release package 11/29/2023 $1127.20 (down-payment) Spanish Language Translation I am seeking a refund of a total amount of $7556.20 for services not renderred. I was verbally told in March of 2024 I would receive a refund by both ****** **** and ***** ******, employees of ***. I have since been unable to speak with either of them or anyone else at *** about this matter. When I call, the phone rings and rings, but no one answers. I have also left messages on their cell phones, but have yet to receive a call back. I am not disputing the publication of my book, and have received my complimentary author's copies. I am disputing the above marketing services which were not rendered. Again, I terminated my relationship with Author Reputation by phone and in writing. That termination was acknowledged by the above-mentioned employees. The agent with whom I had most to do and was subsequently terminated is named ***** *****.Business response

I have not heard from the business in response to my complaint. I have not had a response from them in over 6 months, ever since I said no more money and they started to charge my credit card without my permission three times for over $5,000 illegally. I have their emails begging me to okay their illegal charges and my communications with ******. They were constantly charging me for book fairs, not going and not telling me they didn't go for over a year of my begging to find out what happened at fair, and they deverted my monies to other projects and then had me sign their okay after they did it.Initial Complaint

As part of the contract of have with Author Reputation Plus they are to market my book on sites such as Amazon. However I noticed a few days ago, that it was not on the site. When I called and sent several emails. It took a few weeks for someone to get back to me. I finally got in touch with someone and he told me it would be up within a week to 5 days. However he called me and said it would take 2 weeks. I am missing valuable sales waiting. On top of that they keep wanting me to do more business with them and they can't even keep their word. I just want them to abide by the contract I have with them.Customer response

Author Reputation Press offered to Translate my book "God-Moses-*** Conversations with God" into the Spanish and French languages. My Advisor, ***** ******, advised me that they would do so for the final price $6,300 plus $30 fee. (A copy of Contract is attached). I had several technical and financial conditions to the contract which I transmitted to ***** by email on 6/28/2023 (Copy of email attached). ***** agreed to these conditions in emails on 6/29/2023 and 7/11/2023. (Copies of email attached.) ***** pressed me to sign the contract because of promised sales in ***** and when I hesitated because the new terms were not included, he assured me by email on 7/11/2023 that they would be attached, and I was in danger of missing the sales opportunities in *****. The contract was signed, and I paid $1890 plus $30 to execute the contract. The agreement included producing the book prior to any further payments. Contrary to ******* agreement, he never amended the contract and never completed the translation. He has not responded to any emails on this subject since. In addition, I have forwarded this complaint to the contracts and financing departments and have received no reply from anyone. I desire a complete refund of $1,920.Customer response

While the response acknowledges the errors made by their representative through "...implementation of appropriate measures... and ...sanctions", it still fails to address the promises he made in the negotiations for this contract. His lies and forceful pressures as well as promises to insert the negotiated conditions into the contract after my signing led me to sign the contract believing that he would indeed make the changes. He negotiated in bad faith and as the company's representative, I believed him. A complete refund is still due me.

Dear Sirs,I am writing in regard to my contractual relationship with *********************** the end of May I signed one contract for my first book, Gods Purpose in Creation, to purchase their ******************** package. I retained the copyrights, and the book was printed at the expense, according to ***** *****, my account manager, of Global Book ***** The same company committed, according to *****, to place 10 copies of this book in 385 physical bookstores across the country.Several weeks later, I signed the same contract for my second book, A Life of Heritage and Faith. This time ***** promised that Global Book **** had committed to placing five copies of the book in the same bookstores. After months of inquiries, I have not yet been assured that these books have actually been placed in the book stores as promised .These contracts were at the cost of $2000 per book .In September I paid Author Reputstion Press approximately $4000 to present in detail both books at a book fair in *********, *******. Today, and after numerous inquiries, I have not received any report on this activity, except for a picture, showing the books at the bottom of a *********** a part of the ********* package, my books were also placed on various online outlets, including ****** and *************************. At sometime around Christmas there was a four week interruption in this availability causing a significant challenge to sales at peak season.I believe the first book has been in print and available since July or August and the second book since October. However, today after multiple inquiries, I have no meaningful information on sales. When I access the author portal the only thing I see is that I have $2.42 in available royalties. Its been this way for several weeks.Approximately three weeks ago ***** ***** informed me that he had commitments on Spanish language sales to generate $800 in royalties and after some consideration I signed a $4000 contract for the second book to be translated Into Spanish. At this point, I have no reason to believe that the promised bookstore commitment is true. Shortly after this, I received a call from ***** ****** explaining to me that Mr. ***** had been placed on suspension, and that he was working on a marketing plan for me, and would answer all of my questions and concerns which I have sent to him in detail again with no answers forthcoming. A few days later, I received a call from another *** employee, stating that Mr. ***** had been involved in a serious accident, and had left the country. I do not know what to believe at this point. What I do believe is that *** signs contracts with its authors to generate revenue for services rendered, and do very little to actually help get the books to market and to appropriately market them in spite of fees charged for the same. These opportunities which generate fees for them are presented one at a time with high-pressure sales tactics. No comprehensive plan is presented on the front ****** date I have spent approximately $20,000 on these two books, but I feel I have nothing for my money at this point other than that a few copies have been printed. What I want at the present time as a refund of the $4000 for the Frankfurt book fair, and the $4000 for the Spanish translation. I also want assurance that the books are in the 385 bookstores as guaranteed by Mr. ***** through Global Bookmark. They need to link my interview with ***** ******** on my web site. Lastly, I want an immediate update on sales and timely updates on sales data and royalty payments in the ********* final word to potential authors with *** is buyer beware!!!I basically believe this business to be a sophisticated scam.Respectfully,**** ********, MDCustomer response

The company has repeatedly violated the Do Not Call List. My phone has been registered for over ten years. They have called me first offering to "freely" promote my already published book at bookstores and then asking for fees. I told them I wasn't interested and to not call back. A couple of months later (1/29 2:32 PM) I get another call and then when I tell the individual that my book is already published, he hangs up. This company is irresponsible and doesn't follow the law.Business response

The company's response is a fabrication. I informed the company representative during the first call that I was not interested and that my number was on the *** registry. During the second call the representative called and then quickly hung up. At no point was I vulgar in my response. Clearly this company does not do diligence in screening these numbers before making calls. If no satisfactory resolution is obtained, I will forward my complaint to the state attorney general's office. The BBB should note that this company operates in violation of federal law.

The nature of this dispute is that I have never received residuals from my book and profit information about my book has always been hidden from me on my account. When I asked why doesn't it list all the books that were purchased no one has been able to give me an answer. I have bought books and so has friends and neighbors and yet no information has shown up on my account there is zero (0) information. Where has the money gone for my books they have taken what belongs to me and have ignored me as to hide things. My resolve is for them to show me why the purchase of my books are not tracked and why am I able to go right online to Amazon and ******* to purchase these books and you have no information about the sale of my books.Business response

*********************, Author Advisor of Author Reputation Press (ARP) solicited me in May 2023. He stated that his company had found my book, The 365 Day Devotional for Singers and Musicians, to be one of 9 books highly sought after. He represented that if I would sign with ARP, that they would market my book. His pitch included the following statements:"************ will produce ***** books and distribute them to bookstores location. Your expected amount for direct royalty for $6.00 per book sold would be $45,840.00 Whatever the unsold copies will return it back to ******."In June, ***** sent the following report:I just like to inform you that we will be doing a Pitch Deck Presentation in different bookstores in ********** tomorrow Thursday, June 8, 2023.
