We moved into a brand new house on Jan. 27, 2022. Delmarva Overhead Doors installed the garage door for the house. About a month later, my husband pushed the button to put the garage door down. There was a storage container on the ground where the garage would shut. The garage door did not go up when it touched the container. It continued to push down and broke the top of the garage door with the pressure pushing down. We believe (and have been told by other companies) that that should have never happened. Delmarva is claiming this was our mistake. We believe it was not, that the garage door should have done what every other garage door I've ever seen does, it should have went back up. He is claiming that we are scammers online. We just want our brand new garage fixed and he said we would need to pay $825 to do that. We do not beige that is right.Business response

Business Response /* (1000, 5, 2022/06/14) */ Customers do not understand how garage door safety system works. Customer placed a storage container under the door and closed the door on the container. The container was obviously not in front of the safety photo sensors or the door would NOT have continued to close causing damage to their door. THE DOOR WILL NOT CLOSE IF THE SENSORS ARE BLOCKED OR MIS-ALIGNED. Customer stated the door is "supposed" to reverse direction if it hits something, if that was the case there would be no need for the safety sensors at all. A garage door will eventually reverse direction if enough change in force is detected than normally used to close, BUT, that force setting is automatically set by the MANUFACTURER, NOT by the installer. This does not mean it wont damage the door before switching directions. Again, that force is AUTOMATICALLY set by the MANUFACTURER, NOT BY THE INSTALLER. I have tried repeatedly to explain this to the customer. Customer still states that it is Delmarva Doors fault that customer left something under the door, causing damage to their door. Home owners/Businesses/Employees leave things under their garage doors all the time causing damage, whether its a newly installed door or an old door. That's half our business, fixing damaged doors caused by operator error. Not sure why this customer thinks Delmarva Doors should pay for their mistake? Customer has tried to bully me into paying for their mistake by posting negative reviews about Delmarva Doors, and by threats of legal action by her husband who is a "lawyer". Delmarva Doors has ALWAYS taken care of any issues with customers if it is our fault. Our company (Delmarva Doors) has not had a single bad review in 20 YEARS!! That is something we are proud of!
