On December 28th, 2023 around 4:00 am I was driving my son's vehicle and unfortunately, I ended up going off the road, no other vehicle was involved in this accident. My son came to the scene of the accident and spoke to the officer who said the car would not be placed on hold with the towing company since he was present. The tow company took the car to their location, not our address, and then said they couldn't let us get the car or belongings until the police released it. I called the police over 6 times, wrote emails, spoke over the phone directly, and spoke to another officer in an attempt to get the car. Friday after speaking with the officer multiple times and was under the impression he called to release the hold, I went to KDT in person to get the belongings from the vehicle. I asked about paying just the towing fees, giving them the vehicle and collecting the items in the car, I was told once the officer called yes that was possible. Now today is 1/8/2024, Monday, I called the office of KDT and was told the car was released on Friday, but I was there on Friday afternoon and they told me it wasn't. I then asked if I could pay for their service, but not the storage since I was not taking the vehicle and I had been trying almost daily to get the car from them. The receptionist said it was $1300 to get anything. I explained that my keys were in the car and I just really needed those (2 keys to my car, my house key, my post office key, etc.), but I couldn't pay $1300 for a car I wasn't even taking and was giving to them or justify paying $1300 for keys and my sons fishing pole, football, and a few other sports items he has in the trunk. Even if salvaged completely, the car is worth something, which they will make money off or receive compensation by my exchange of the car for items, in addition to the payment for the tow services, hook up, or whatever other item charges they include for a standard tow service. She would not work with me and had no compassion or interest in even trying to help me in any manner. This is beyond unreasonable and I feel that this type of business should not be permitted. I just need my belongings, I would like to pay for the tow service, get my belongings, and give the car as my acknowledgment of the business' standards set forth. I believe that this is a reasonable modification that could be easily accepted by the company, but they will not even consider any adjustment regardless of circumstance.

We were contacted for a winch out early morning of 12/29/2023. The Vehicle was damaged and needed to be towed not just winched out. The vehicle could have been towed to a home then if they had payment at the time for the winch and tow and it was cleared by the police on scene. . However the Police were on scene and had it towed to our shop so they could sort something out. Trooper ********************* the ************ notified our office that the vehicle needed to be help until he called to release it. A lady and a man called several times and stopped here but vehicle had not been cleared to go by the police ***** The owners were also attempting to touch base with the trooper to have it released. On 1/5/2024 A lady stopped in and asked about picking it up. We advised that it still had not been cleared to go. She was here and tried calling again and we called as well. At some point she left here. Later that evening the trooper called us back and said that it could be released to the registered owner. Registered owner was not the women who had been here. She would be able to pick it up if she had notarized letter from the owner saying she could pick up the vehicle. She called back and wanted to pick vehicle up we said it was released and gave her the charges and the rules. She had been calling the state police top get it released the whole time and also knew the storage rates. Any vehicle that is towed in costs us money. We oaid an employee to do the work ect. Insurance on the worker the truck and the yard where the vehicle sits. We do not make money off of scrapping vehicles. We would much rather people just pay and take the car. It takes up space and time for us. We have to file paper work pay to do a title search and then pay for a title application with the state. The local police **** has to come a verify the vin before we can do any of that. There are some things that we are required by law to people even if they do not pay. medications, eye glasses, child safety seats. The law is written to make it so people will come and pick up the vehicle in a timely matter and not get the important stuff out and leave us with an abandon vehicle full of junk that we have to do more work to get rid of. We do not hold peoples vehicles for any reason other than a police hold or not paying the bill. The bill was fair for a tow and a winch. The majority of the bill was storage. Which was not our choice. had it been cleared to go by police the registered owner could have picked it up that day or paid at the time to have it towed home. We do it all the time. I can forward any info on the laws of what can be picked up out of a vehicle if you would like.
