On Dec. 9 in the late afternoon I went to ********* Sporting Goods in *********** to look at and purchase a firearm. I explained that I was looking for something small, just for personal protection. The man listened politely. Then he asked me if I had any experience with firearms, which I don't. I held a gun but it was not loaded. He asked if I had taken any classes, which I hadn't yet but had planned to with the gun I purchased. He refused to sell me a gun. He told me he was "uncomfortable" selling one to someone without training. There was another man standing off to my side but I could see he had a confused look on his face. I asked if he'd at least start the. background check, but again he refused. He told me to come back after my class and he'd start the check and sell me the gun. Since I'd never heard of any rule or law about training required first, I decided to simply walk out without comment. I hope they had their cameras on and didn't erase them as I need to prove my behavior and demeanor were appropriate at all times. However, as soon as I shared my experience publicly, I received 2 private messages. The first one was from a former student who's now an adult. She told me that her mother bought a gun from them last month, without the training. The second person told me that's also where she bought hers. Again, no training. In the real world this is called discrimination. I have not and will not have any further contact with this business or anyone there. I've chosen the legal route. I have screenshots of the messages proving others purchased guns without training, yet I was denied. I am in a minority and that has crossed my mind. I was clear, well spoken, dressed neatly and polite. I didn't challenge his decision or make any comment at all- just turned and walked out. I want nothing from them. I only want others to know. Does this sound like discrimination to you? No, there really is NO more to the story. Truth.
