12/02/23 work order ******* I have a two-handle Delta shower in a fiberglass surround that is 36 years old. The hot water handle was causing the shower to drip. The fact that the actual valve was behind the fiberglass I chose to hire a plumber to fix it. A plumber from AAA Network Service came out and told me it would be illegal for him to work on the shower as it did not have an anti-scald device on this older two-handle shower. He told me my only recourse was to replace the entire shower assembly with a one-handle one for a cost of $1,069. I would then be required to repair the drywall he cut to access the rear of the shower for an additional cost. He did not repair anything yet charged me a $149.95 service call. The only thing this shower needed was to replace the washer - or in the case of a Delta faucet, the seat and spring. I called a friend and he replaced the seat and spring.According to the ********.gov site it is the law that a change of valve or new construction would require an anti-scald device. Certainly the law does not require a $1,500 repair to replace a $2 part. Two days after the plumber told me he could not legally repair my shower I stopped by their office to talk about what I found and to ask from my $150 service call fee back. I talked to a young girl (****) who worked at the counter. She talked to her manager - who would not come out and talk to me - and said there was nothing they could do! I have worked in business all my life and I would always talk to a customer that had an issue.Over the weekend I talked to a plumbing professional, he stated, "No licensed plumber would tell me that". Why is a professional hired? To provide proper advice and/or to fix the problem. AAA Network did neither.Depending on how they answer this complaint I intend to ************** of the State Attorney General to look into this case. Are they hiring license plumbers? Is it their practice to upsell to retired people? Refund $149.95Business response
