We hired Southern Concepts Spring of 2022 to finish a set of stairs to a deck that we built. We thought we were hiring another deck builder but apparently, he got too busy and sent *****. ***** collected a deposit of $3k+ for materials. Indicated that the materials would be dropped off but didn't show for weeks. When he finally did show up, he showed up with stringers that were way too short for the stairs. He tried to rig something out of them end cut through the materials he did purchase. He wouldn't show for SEVERAL days and then when he did, he would spend all day and nothing would be changed. He asked for more money to cover the cost of additional materials. We finally realized he had no idea what he was doing and asked him to return the deposit and not come back. We have yet to see the money and we ended up having to hire another company and purchase all new materials. He hacked up our deck and stole our money.

In mid-Nov 2021 we began talking with Southern Concepts LLC about getting a deck built on our house. The owner, *****, was very friendly and responsive. On 12/6/21, [prior to signing a contract] ***** indicated he pulled the building permit and ordered materials. On 12/16/21 we signed a contract and paid a deposit of $6102.00 in cash. We were told our materials would be dropped off on 1/8/22, but they were not. We checked in on materials and requested proof of purchase multiple times between 1/8 and 1/27 and received no response or another promised delivery date without follow through. By Feb, ***** indicated another company would be out to do the deck footings for him on 2/10, at no cost to us, but the company could not do the work because ***** did not pull the permit back in Dec. This time he pulled the permit and showed us the paperwork from the City. Between 2/10 and 2/19 we asked for proof of materials purchase, and he did not respond. By 2/19, due to a lack of follow through, communication, and lies, we requested a refund and received no response. On 2/24 we requested a response and ***** indicated he would be out 3/4 to start our footings and drop off materials, and he did not show. On 3/7 we were officially done and requested our refund back. ***** responded he would have to figure out the numbers due to 25% materials restocking fee, to which we still had no proof of purchase for. ***** indicated we would receive our full refund on 3/14 minus the permit cost ($260), which the City canceled due payment with a bad check. We did not receive our refund on 3/14 due to bad weather. I tried to set a date he could drop off our refund and he was too busy. He refused to pay us back in cash as we paid him in cash. On 3/18, ***** indicated he put our check in the mail that morning, even though he was in our neighborhood that day. It is 3/28 and we have not received our refund and Shauns response to us is he cannot control the mail. We are requesting a full refund.

signed an agreement with *********************, Southern Concepts LLC to complete a deck off of our home.. Had to provide half of the money up front for building materials and the rest when the project was completed. Agreement was signed October 2021.Communication was ok in the beginning and would return calls however, 4 times he would state he would be coming to our home to put in the footings for the deck and would never show. We are now about 3 months into this process and he will not return our calls or texts, we have no idea where he is or where our money is. On ******** there is a GoFundMe posted on 01/16/2022 requesting help to "save my business" which makes us even more concerned that we will never see our money or our deck. He stated materials were going to be delivered to our home and they never arrived. we are seeking an attorney but feel BBB needs to be aware of this as well. we want the job finished or a refund of our $5,215.32

We paid Shaun (owner of Southern Concepts, LLC) a $500.00 deposit check back on 12-1-2021 to provide work on our home. The work was suppose to start and finish that week. He has been doing nothing but giving us the run around and has refused to give us our deposit money back. It's a rental home and we gave him a deadline as of Sunday (yesterday) to have the work completed. He text this morning stating that he has in fact started the job and will have the job completed tonight. It's a rental and when I inspected the home, not one thing has been done.

      Business response

      01/11/2022

Yes so I have completed this job and was paid the remainder of what was owed. This customer clearly didn't quite state all the facts in the complaint and was completely one sided. I do have all previous text stating otherwise and due to this customer threating me with filing a complaint, I have lost several other clients. I don't agree with this complaint and think it was not deserved. The way contractors are treated and just because the customer can't quite get the fact that it is just me working 7 days a week to maintain my business and to do what I originally opened up for, is to bring a good name back to contractors. So in the attachments provided, it clearly states that I was told I can start whenever I want. And as you can clearly see this customer which I have done work before threaten me with all means and as you can see even if it was done falsely. So southern Concepts completed the work accordingly and really what was originally agreed to pay was not just to make this customer happy.
