This company (Bates Electric **** came out to run electric to a small tankless water heater in our upstairs, unfinished garage bathroom. Technician arrived timely at 7:30 am and the job was not completed until 3:00 (7 hours). We were charged $920 for labor !! And an additional $751 for a 2 pole 60 amp breaker (which you can get on Amazon for $24.99) for a grand total of $1,670!!!! My best advice before using this company is to get an estimate first!!Review from Elizabeth H

This company has charged us twice for work that has not solved the electrical issue tied to the original appointment. I don't recommend individuals use their service. You will pay for services that *** or *** not improve/solve for the electrical issues you are having.Review from Philip W

I recently had Bates Electric remove and replace my main electrical service panel in my residence. They couldn't have been any easier to work with. From the quote ***** had sent me to the follow up calls before, during and after the process, they made this soooooo easy and extremely price competitive. *****, the technician, was prompt, very polite and man o man, what a worker. He did a great job, paid attention to every detail and answered any and all of my questions along the way. He went the extra mile to make sure all was perfect.....and it is. Thanks to Bates for a fantastic job!Review from Laura T

Bates electric has inept employees working for them, at least the one that came to our house. I was unfortunately referred to Bates Electric and the technician I had was pleasant at first. We just had a tripped switch. He ended up being at our house for roughly two days. He seemed very confused about how to fix the problem. He called several people to get guidance. While he was there I even ran out to ************** to get a GFI switch because he said he needed one and I needed to get this process moving. In the end he didnt need this switch and told me I should return it. After two days of listening to the technicians frustrations, of which I was very accommodating and pleasant, he finally thinks he got the switch working. When he was getting ready to leave he turned on our brand new dishwasher to see if it worked and he had fried it through this process. He told me then to call the appliance company. I had to order a new dishwasher and it took three more months, after I had already waited three months to get it. When I realized he fried the brand new dishwasher, I told him to get out of my house. He proceeded to yell at me and said I new you would be like this from the second I walked in. I was completely pleasant with him at all times and should never have been attacked. My son was in the other room and heard the whole thing and saw me crying with my frustration. Bates keeps sending me an invoice for $700.00. He only created problems for me. I will be happy to spread the word throughout our neighborhood if the invoices dont stop coming in the mail. I wish I would have used a better company. This situation cause so much frustration! ******************* ****** **.Review from Troy R

Bates Electric is a scam. I WANT MY MONEY BACK!! They take advantage of seniors. Had tech out to determine electric issue. They sent a tech that really had no knowledge of what he was doing. He kept eating up time and charging more money after original fee for every 15 minutes. After the bill got to be $258.00 I finally told the tech I cannot keep paying him for doing nothing. I am a senior on a fixed low income. Sadly, I was taken advantage of and had to pay. I would like my money back since Bates Electric cannot send out knowledgeably tech. I called another company and they came out and found the problem in a short time and were able to resolve the problem. Bates Electric is only after your money.Review from Rabia u

We hired a contractor to finish the basement, and he hired Bates for electrical work. The guy would come to sit in his van and would rarely work. They would get the items that needed to be ordered to the address, and when I would go to give him in the basement, he would not be there. He only made a few electrical connections. The contractor came to ** for extra money for electrical. We refused as it did not make any sense. The contractor got fired, but the bates company put a lien on our house. We took pictures of the work they did, which was nothing. They asked for a ridiculous amount of extra money. We hired someone else, and they did the whole basement for much. We hired a lawyer to get them off the lien. So please stay away from this company. They are only there to get your money.Review from Roberto S

Called for a tripping circuit breaker---. Diagnosis(service fee); 125 dollars. To find a frayed wire on my wall switch; after two hours of bumbling; 250 dollars. (Was able to bring it down to 343 dollars after I complained of time involved). 5 days later the same circuit breaker tripped during a visit of family and friends. Aske them to come by and reassess the problem. The electrician said that he does not correct switches that are defective. He only works from wall outlet to main board. Called to supposedly talk with the boss lady( **** last name of Bates). After I explained my dissatisfaction, she most hurriedly said that she would call me back once she could get the notes on the work order. "Call back" never came. That is when I started revising all of this companys' abundant complaints. I see now that there is no use in trying to get some kind of civil dialogue with these people. I simply attribute it to Natural Disaster Poachers! Consumer regret.......I'm afraid so.Review from David H

Earlier this year I contracted with Bates Electric and originally was on time and did good work. After the hurricane, I contacted Bates and talked to two managers to set them up to connect large portable generator. I bought the parts and drove straight from Milwaukee to Fort Myers. Regardless of their promises, they did NOT keep their word. They didn't call back or answer any of my numerous emails. They completely ignored us and couldn't keep their word. Now today, the exact same thing happened. I thought I'd try them one more time. We set up an appointment for today and agreed with their emergency rates. They promised that they'd show up - but again didn't keep their promise. At 5:15 I called their office and checked with the office staff. She promised to check with the tech and call me back. She failed to keep her word. Nobody showed up or called us, just like two weeks ago. This firm has proven a lack of character, integrity and does not have the ability to keep their word. Don't waste your time. You have been warned.Review from sri p

I made an appt for a Bates technician to come do an estimate on several things in the 82yr old house I just bought. The soonest appt was 2.5wks out, but I took it anyway. I made a sooner appt with another company too. I was told when making the appt with Bates, that it would be $125/hr, so that is what I was expecting to pay. Despite the Bates fee of $125 being higher for a quote, my electrical safety concerns were great enough to want a 2nd opinion. I hadnt received a reminder text or email for Bates to come, so I had to call back the day before to confirm. The lady confirmed the appt & reminded me again of the $125 service fee (I still only heard of $125, despite the different terminology). The technician was on time & friendly, telling me what he suspected the quotes would be (cheaper than first company). When we were settling up, he asked if I knew it would be $250. I told him I was told $125/hr, to which he stated the customer is usually surprised at the $250 quote fee, implying that this info is not made very clear at the time of scheduling. Apparently, its $125/hr AND a $125 service fee, when the guy was only here for 30min! Maybe I shouldve noticed the different verbiage from the scheduler, but Ive worked in customer service for years & many people wouldve made this mistake. I would NOT have made an appt with Bates had I known the cost of a quote. I received an email same day with my invoice, but I never received a quote. I called the next day to inquire & was told that quotes take 5-7 business days to receive! I cant wait that long, plus another 2-3wks for another appt. I wasted an extremely valuable $250, & I am still waiting for my quote after 9 business days. This companys schedulers need to make it clear what exactly quote cost will be & how long it will take to receive quote. Most families cannot afford $250 for a quote. The other company cost $69 for a quote that I received same day. Thats better customer service.
