Was charged out of pocket cost for a prosthetic and should have not been since the VA insurance covers all costs. Premier will not refund out of pocket cost. Refund of $740.61 is being requested.Business response

Mr. **** has been under our care since 2-1-2019. From pre-prosthetic consult to definitive delivery of his first prosthetic, we were unaware of his veteran status.
During this time frame Mr. **** communicated his healthcare provider as United Health Care. We received verification and authorization from UHC HMO of his active coverage. We quoted Mr. **** his benefits, he signed a financial responsibility form agreeing to pay his portion. (Attached)
Although we have extensive notes in Mr. ****'s chart, where he provided family, work and health history, he never told us he was a Veteran. When Mr. **** provided the information that he is a veteran, using the VA as his healthcare provider his 2nd prosthesis was processed through the VA.
His position that Premier made a mistake is invalid because we should have asked him if he was a veteran is inaccurate. That responsibility is Mr. ****'s. Our ability to provide the best and most cost effective care requires full disclosure from the patient to us.
We appreciate all our Veterans, including Mr. ****.
We are empathic to his situation, but do not agree that two years later, his out of pocket expense is our responsibility.
We are committed to providing him with the best care possible. .
