On 11/30/2021, I closed on 1 of my 2 properties to a company, ** *** **** ******, who paid all closing costs and chose Pilger Title Company as the closing agents. Prior to closing, ******* from Pilger Title, contacted me for my basic personal info (DOB, ss#,etc.) and name of mortgage company, Keesler Federal Credit Union. I gave all of this information as well as letting ******* know that I had 2 mortgages with KFCU. After closing, I went to KFCU to pay mortgage B, but was informed that mortgage B had been paid off instead if mortgage A. I contacted Pilger Title company while at KFCU and was told I would receive a response. I received multiple emails and phone calls from Pilger Title saying there was an error and they processed the wrong account number. I contacted ***** ****** and he said there was an error on his company's part and that I needed to pay the difference of $6500, even though it was their error. I contacted multiple attorneys who said they have represented Pilger Title and it was a conflict of interest but to contact the owner, ***** ******, because he bears responsibility to forgo the balance since his company did not verify the information given to them from the bank. I am being threatened with lawsuits and harassed when this error was not noticed until after the closing.Business response

We did nothing wrong on the above complaint.
The client forgot to mention that HE was the one who provided us with the wrong loan number to pay off his loan. So it just happened that he had 2 loans with the same bank (KFCU) for almost exactly the same amount. Therefore, it did not look unnormal to us.
The client did hire an attorney **** *** **** out of Bay St. Louis, MS and i gave the attorney all the documents requested. I also spoke to this attorney, who has never represented Pilger Title Co. before, and he said that Mr. ******* just owes the money as its his debt and he took no further action. Had this attorney seen that i made a mistake, he would have sued or demanded money. But he did not. Title Companies do not owe debts of another. Even if the payoff was short, the customer still owes the money at it is simply his debt that he promised to make back. The debt does not just automatically become my debt!!!
Thank You,
***** ******
