This place of business tinted my car windows with an illegal shade of tint. I was not aware of this until I had to take the vehicle to do the annual car inspection. It is ultimately their responsibility to ensure the proper tint shade is used.Business response

Business Response /* (1000, 5, 2021/12/16) */ The customers statement is blatantly false. I have documented communication available from the customer specifically requesting an illegal shade of tint. I informed the customer that any shade darker than 35% was illegal if the vehicle was classified as a passenger vehicle and requested that he verify classification. Customer stated he believed it was classified as a small SUV or station wagon and requested to proceed with 20%. Ultimately, it is the customers (and vehicle owners) responsibility to verify classification based on registration with the state. Installation of tint occurred in 2019. Customer disclosed that he had been inspected successfully twice since that time, however, had recently failed. Customer contacted the business and although not obligated, we generously offered to assist the customer with stripping the vehicle of the existing tint and re-tinting it legally at a significantly discounted rate. Customer was not satisfied and responded aggressively and with threats. At that time we informed the customer we were not comfortable performing the work due to the threat to the business and concerns of safety for our employees. Consumer Response /* (3000, 8, 2021/12/21) */ The response is not accurate. There was one successful inspection "after" he tinted the windows, but while researching, learned the technician never checked the tint and indicted there was none. Also, in the messages with *****, I did mention that "I think" the vehicle was considered an SUV, but wasn't 100% sure. And despite asking for dark tint, it's ****** responsibility to know the work he's doing "and" make sure it's legal. He is ultimately responsible for placing illegal tint on the vehicle and should be held accountable. HE IS SUPPOSEDLY THE EXPERT AND SHOULD KNOW HIS BUSINESS AND SHOULD HAVE DENIED ANY REQUEST THAT WOULD NOT BE LEGAL. Business Response /* (4000, 10, 2021/12/21) */ The customer verbally reported to the business that he had passed two inspections. Regardless, whether it was one inspection or two, the customer was satisfied with his knowingly illegally requested tint until it became an inconvenience for him at which point he made it an issue with the business. Our due diligence as a tinting business is to inform the customer what is and is not legal in **, which we very clearly did in the previously attached documentation. It is ultimately the vehicle owners responsibility to make an informed decision based on circumstances what shade of tint they want installed. It is not our responsibility as a tinting business to, as the customer suggests, "deny any illegal request," as circumstances vary and dictate customer choice. For example: what state the vehicle is registered in as tint laws vary by state, if the customer has a job that requires darker shades of tint, if there are medical waivers in place, how the vehicle is classified based on registration/state, and/or whether or not someone will be relocating. Our position is and will remain the same and we are not comfortable performing any work for this customer due to threats to the business and concerns for safety of our employees which is further evidenced and supported by the customers ongoing BBB aggressive and accusatory responses.
