First Mutual Insurance Company Response
12/07/2023
We thank you for the opportunity to respond. This claim was assigned to an independent adjusting firm. The company claims manager based the decision on payment of this claim from the information contained in the adjusters report. The damaged shingles on the backslope were scattered and the damaged shingles on the front were concentrated in one place which makes repair easier. The Company does not discriminate in its methodology on payment of claims among insureds. The Company does not recommend repair people and this is a transaction that is better handled by the insured. Attached you will find a publication from the ** **** of Insurance which addresses claims of the type ******************************* has. Per ** **** of Insurance "A Consumer's Guide to Homeowner's Insurance" -- page 27 "If my roof is damaged, does the company have to replace my whole roof? No, they only have to replace the damaged area, even if the shingles will not match (e.g. the original shingles are now discontinued). I did notice in her complaint that the thought entered her mind about committing insurance fraud to collect more in damages.
Best Regards.
