I have played with cars all my life and do most of my own maintenance. I decided to take advantage of a coupon for a wheel alignment and I wanted to replace the shocks since I'm getting too old to do that myself. This was all I had authorized, but they replaced a brake light and the license plate light for a charge of $174.00. I refused to pay that since I didn't authorize it and the ridiculous charge for ten minutes of labor and $20 in parts. I probably have these bulbs at home. When I drove my Suburban home, I noticed the traction control light and the ABS light on. At first I thought I would just take it back. Then I noticed in the billing documentation that a wheel speed sensor went bad during the test drive and a quote of $273.87 to replace. What a coincidence. Why wasn't I told this when I picked it up? At first I accepted this. I hooked up my OBDII and it pointed to the left rear wheel sensor. I crawled under my Suburban and determined that I could change it myself. I started tracing out the wiring harness to see how it was routed. I found where the wiring harness connects to the wiring loom on top of the frame. It was unplugged. I looked at the connector and it was in excellent condition with the locking tab in place. I snaped it back together and couldn't pull it apart. You have to pull the locking tab up in order to disconnect it. Problem resolved. I've seen things like this out of other repair shops but I never thought a Chevy dealership would pull a trick like this especially on safety features like traction control and the braking system. I am asking to be compensated for my diagnostic time and labor in the amount of $273.87 which is the same amount that you would have charged me.Business response
