My wife contracted ***************************** in July 11, 2023. Our plan was to do a renovation for the first floor of my home and eventually in the future get it ready for a second floor extension. We asked him multiple times to meet with an architect and let us speak to the architect, so we can have the plans. He also failed to take out any permits as required by law. He ignored my request and moved forward with the house renovations as he saw fit. After doing the demolition he stated everything should be fine and smoothly. However, the house stayed demolished for months with minimal progress. Every week he would come to me asking for more money. He refused to take checks and only wanted cash, which I found very shady. The contract stated that he was responsible for the kitchen bathroom and add new floors, however I had to pay the kitchen supplier money for my countertop in addition to purchasing my own wood floor because he refused to purchase it. He stated that this was not something he can do right now due to shortage of money even though I had paid him the full amount. He would come up with excuses on why the house is not being done. In October I started to ask him when I can expect the house to be done as it had been already three months. It is now December 19th and he has been ignoring my messages and calls. At the beginning of December 2023 he came and took all his tools and left the project undone. The bathroom, kitchen, closets, backyard steps, paint, ceiling holes all left undone. I completed payment for at least $135,000 for the full project. He did not complete the project and abandoned. I found out his license has been expired for over a year (license ID ******, expired in 5/17/2022) he does not have business insurance or Workers Comp. or any other necessities for operating a fully compliant business. He presented himself as a licensed contractor which he is not. His business also advertises that it is accredited by the Better business bureau, which is false

Dear Sir/Madam,I was planning to open a small Supermarket in the Bronx and leased 2 stores at *********************************************** location. To do GC work, we've hired ***************************** the owner of Liberty Renovation in April 2022 for a total $375,000.00 At the time we signed the contract with ***************************** he was aware that we did not have the access to the business and wasn't sure when the landlord will give ** the access of the location due to the pending Con ****** gas and electric work plus the *** inspection and ***************************** was ok with that. After we signed the contract, ***************************** has asked us to pay him $200K in deposit so that he can buy equipment and keep in his warehouse. Later we found out he never had any warehouse and he purchased a house with my money in ** (**************************************************). He bought this house in May 2nd, 2022 which within 2 or 3 days after he took the money from me. On March 20th, 2023 I finally got the keys for the store and asked ***************************** to get ready to start the work but he refused to start the work and demanding me to sign a new contract with higher amount $430K even though the first contract we've signed did not have any clause of expiration dates or he can cancel or void the contract himself. I've requested him to honor the signed contract and start the work. ***************************** refused to do the work so I've asked him to return my deposit money $200K. He refused to return my money. From day one, ***************************** intention was to defraud me and use my money to buy the house and never do the work. I kindly request you to take all necessary actions so that ***************************** (Liberty Renovation) return my $200K funds, and cannot defraud other people like me.
