Rating: F Kickstarter is by all accounts now in the business of providing an unethical crowdfunding platform to Scammers. (perhaps they always have been? ) They take their cut of, for instance, 1**K dollars and do nothing to hold scam creators accountable. They apparently are quite happy to allow backers to be scammed just as long as they (kickstarter) can take their cut of the money that was scammed out of the backers. Complete lack of integrity and ethics. Up until now, I have been lucky enough not to have been scammed by a Kickstarter creator, but that luck has run out Since Kickstarter clearly has no interest in doing anything to assist the backers in receiving products they backed Or facilitating a refund when they have not... I will never associate with a Kickstarter project again, Even if I know that the creator is ethical and honest - because Kickstarter does not deserve to be making major sums of $$ - perhaps countless tho*sands or mill*ons of dollars Or truly any $$ whatever amount it is, even if it's $2.50 - when they (KS) have absolutely no intention - or even the slightest remotest desire - to assist the backers and make sure the creators are as accountable as possible, including being ethical and honest and doing everything they can to fulfill the project and product that was funded by their backers.I would truly equate this company now to be or be akin to a Money laundering operation - Regardless of all the waivers that you may agree to when backing a project When this company does nothing to try to facilitate the ethical process of crowdfunding, it ultimately becomes (IMHO) either partially or fully a type of fraudulent or criminal organization when they make no attempt to hold their creators accountable.I sincerely advise staying away permanently from all kickstarter projects .Review from Nick H

As a successful campaign creator, I can tell you that not all campaigns are scams. Lately, Kickstarter has rejected a handful of new campaigns I've created for nebulous reasons. I say nebulous because their rejection had no specificity and only suggested based on their 'policy' that I 'change' the campaign. My latest, a candle campaign, was rejected because one of the scents was pot. Yes, that kind of pot. They said that ANY reference to marijuana is considered drug paraphernalia. I thought, OK, let's take a look at what other campaigns were green-lit by them that deal with 'drug paraphernalia.' A quick search resulted in dozens of campaigns APPROVED by Kickstarter with obvious themes to marijuana. One was ******* Cannabis while another was called SMOKE WEED. When I appealed their decision with links to all of these campaigns and accused them of selectively enforcing their nebulous policy, the appeal was immediately rejected. Kickstarter has outlived its usefulness and is now run by Democrats, much like ******* was and FB has always been.Review from Steven O

I've been a backer on Kickstarter for a long time. Due to a recent backed project going poorly, I started looking back through my history and noticed that almost half of the projects I've backed have either taken my money and ran or failed to deliver. What I then noticed is that Kickstarter, PBC fails to take any responsibility, whatsoever, for the funds they receive. At best, this is a poor service. At worst, it is a cooperative criminal enterprise. There is literally no recourse for the backers of a project which fails to adhere to Kickstarter, PBC policies. In my experience, the company fails to adequately address fraudulent behavior which is only successful due to their product. This theft is only possible because of Kickstarter, PBC.Projects on which I lost money:- Shaintar: Legends Unleashed $150 - Red Aegis Roleplaying Game $350 - ***** in Wonderland Playing Cards $100 - Fateforge: A 5th Edition Roleplaying Game $150 I am currently backing one last item and then will close my account. I take responsibility for continuing to use a service that clearly offers absolutely no protection for the company's users. However, it is obvious that Kickstarter, PBC is complicit in theft by taking their cut of a funded project and then entirely disavowing any responsibility when creators do not deliver as contracted.Review from Regina H

Another scam ANZENE on Kickstarter platform and the company does nothing to help backers get refunded or penalize the company stealing! Many of us have tried getting any kind of response from the seller, 928 comments last update Jan 2023 and funded May 2022. Since I will never help fund another project on Kickstarter I'm not going to speak highly on anyone else throwing their money, especially hundreds to thousands, on a platform that lets others just straight steal from those trying to help.Review from Norman F

Prospective backers should be aware that a project can terminate at any time for any reason. There is no requirement for the project to inform you of its status or of its termination. There is no requirement for Kickstarter to provide any information about the project after it is underway. There is no way to prove that a project even existed after the funding closes. My project issued a couple of status updates. Now it does not respond to my requests for status and Kickstarter does not respond to my emails asking about the project. I have nothing to prove that any development occurred, and I have to assume that the sponsors just took the money and disappeared, I will never back another kickstarter project again. I should have checked BBB before becoming a sponsor.Review from Dave M

Do not waste any of your money backing a Kickstarter project because they will not protect you if the project creators takes your money once its funded and runs off. Kickstarter will ignore any communication you send trying to get an answer or refund, even using their own 'report' channels. For an idea of the deception and lack of protection, do yourself a favor and look up the VinylSonic Record Cleaner (BBB will not let me link the project here, but it is an easy ****** search away). It raised $670,000.00 dollars off of ~**** backers and was supposed to be delivered in DECEMBER 2022. The creators provided little in terms of updates (the last was in APRIL 2023) and have gone completely silent. Kickstarter has a history of banking off of scam project creation and not protecting the backers. If you have money you are intent on wasting, then Kickstarter is the perfect place for you.I have emails and screnshots to back all of the above if needed.Review from Luke E

Kickstarters quality of service is now abysmal. Ive been a backer since 2011. Now they allow foreign scammers to take over their platform and take 100s of dollars from normal people. I never got a receipt (which I have in the past) and the creator company shutdown all signs of operations only months after their project was backed. Never use this site again. They dont offer insurance and they allow predators on their platform. Horrible customer service as they hide behind them being a tech company with form emails. I hope there is a massive class action suit against them. They have been robbing people for years.Review from John C

Kickstarter facilitates scammers to take your money and get away with it, and Kickstarter gets a cut of all the proceeds. It should be shut down.Review from Frank R

I backed a project and when it was a couple of months into it, the creator said VIA KICKSTARTER PROJECT UPDATES that it was a scam and we need to ask our banks back for refunds. Kickstarter won't refund it because they said they "vet their creator properly" and "the funds go directly to the creator", meanwhile Kickstarter got their cut. The worst part is the creator keeps updating the project basically teasing us that we cant get the money back.Review from Cynthia M

I placed a backing payment fir a Maker Bliss heat press. ($129 initially and Kickstarter-not the project, collected an additional $55 for shipping). I now find out that the entire thing was a scam, no heat presses were made and kickstarter doesn't even have the decency to go after the project initiators to recover funds paid in by thousands of trusting people. It seems like Kickstarter only backs scams and they should pay the penalties. A class action lawsuit might do the trick.
