When I inspected this home and discussed the bathroom remodel with this customer she had a functional bathroom.  It was apparent that there was subfloor damage as the floor was unstable around the toilet area.  We agreed to a floor plan that was consistent with the original with the exception of eliminating the claw foot tub.  I submitted a detailed estimate to the customer that covered all material and labor to do the job.  She agreed to the terms and conditions and provided a down payment for the work.  We contacted the customer a week before the job was scheduled to start and she informed me that she was going to be on vacation and did not want to start until after she returned.  We honored her request and scheduled the job to start when it was more convenient for her.   The Friday before we started the job, I went back out with my foreman to review it with him.  When we got there the customer informed us that she had shut the water off to the toilet and was not using it because it was ready to fall through the floor. We discussed the job and came up with several changes in the floorplan in order to accommodate the customer’s request for a tub/shower unit rather than just a shower stall.  The customer verbally agreed to these changes that included moving the toilet next to the tub/shower unit and moving the vanity on the opposite wall.  Rather than remove the entire partition wall between the bathroom and laundry room we were only going to remove half of it and use the other half for the bulkhead for the tub/shower unit. We also agreed to install a pocket door so the door would not open into the room providing additional space for her washer and dryer. The customer was concerned about the mess this construction was going to make as it was on her main floor right off her kitchen and main living area.  I attempted to explain that we would try to control the mess however it was almost impossible to prevent the drywall dust from going everywhere because we could not isolate it to one room.  We told her that we would only tear out what was necessary to minimize the mess.  The dynamics and material cost for this job had increased from my original inspection however I honored the price of the signed contract.  Throughout the entire process the customer was kept informed and made all decisions on the fixtures used in her bathroom down to the faucets, paint color, ceramic tile, etc.  During the course of the work she did not question the quality of the workmanship.  The job did take twice as long as we expected because we ran into many unforeseen issues however she was NOT paying us by the hour.  When we finished the job, she paid us in full.  A week later we received a call from the customer’s friend who stated that they were unhappy with the job and how much she had paid for the work.  I requested they make a complete list of the issues and scheduled to meet in person to go through and address each of the concerns.  When I went back to meet the customer, her two friends were there and she was not present.  I took a picture of the list with my phone and left the original at the house.  I scheduled one of my employees that had done the work on this home to go back and correct each of the items making sure everything was completed.  The tub/shower unit had a small chip on the edge of the outside flange where it mounts to the floor.  This is generally covered by trim molding and does not affect the unit’s functionality in any way and we were able to repair it.  There was one item that was not on the list and that was a drain pipe in the basement that needed to be raised so the outside basement door could open completely.  The customer brought this to my attention but refused to let me come back to adjust the PCV pipe.  I told her that she could hire someone else to raise the pipe and I would reimburse her.   I have done everything I can to satisfy this customer.   Thank You!  Steven K**** dba SK Construction & Judith R*** Complaint # ********
