Level Five Design LLC was hired to do a few projects around the home:Repair/Repaint Ceilings Install 3 regular doors and 1 barn door Install 3 ceiling fans (one to be relocated)Repair/Paint Hallway/walls of stairwell Repair/replace ******** on the staircase The project was estimated at $8,750 with a 2 week time frame to start on 2/28/22. The contractor did not start work until 3/2/22. There was going to be sanding and painting, I was advised to move everything to the center of each room. However, there were no drop clothes or tarps placed over any of the items in the rooms resulting in paint, stain & dust all over the contents and the 2nd fl. A cleaning crew was needed. They were only advised to paint/repair the ceiling in the rooms, but got paint all over the walls, destroying wall paper and requiring repainting of the walls (which was not completed.) Crown molding was removed and not replaced in one bedroom and paint was all over the base moldings in all rooms. The doors were installed to satisfaction, but the barn door is a different color than the other three doors (it is a small area and very noticeable.) The contractor did not complete or fully paint the moldings installed around the doors and left it looking worse than when the project started. The 3 ceiling fans were not installed properly. #1 was fully installed, but wired incorrectly and does not work from the switch as before. #2 was partly installed (light fixture only) and is also wired incorrectly. #3, which at the contractors advisement, was to be moved to the center of the room, was never installed as the contractor determined it would be too much work. The hallway/stairwell was painted but has large areas in need of touch up. We like the color but the contractor selected a flat coat which we would not have agreed to in such a high traffic area. The old ******** was thrown away, but a new one was not successfully installed. We now have an unsafe, unusable railing (that also looks terrible).

Most of this is false. I went beyond my call of duty to install and paint and do our very best under extremely tight and old terribly kept conditions. I have all before abd after pictures. I did cover their belongings which were not centered in room like I asked. I did not charge for extras of which there were so many needed to properly install doors and finish ceilings. I was told that we weren't allowed to finish because we needed more time. I allowed the customer to keep 750 dollars plus I paid a professional cleaner 600 dollars to clean the entire second floor. These people were very rude and had no concept of the time it takes to do things right! Never again will I do any favors or go out of my way for a customer. It does not pay!

      Better Business Bureau:

I have reviewed the response made by the business in reference to complaint ID# ********, and have determined that my complaint has NOT been resolved because:

This contractor IN NO WAY went above and beyond. HE did the estimate and as a professional should have been aware this was an older home and needed repairs (hence why we called him in). We were in NO WAY rude to him, as he was rarely there and when he was he would not even say hello to the homeowners. We were given a 2 week time frame and by the end of week 4 he was NO WHERE near done. We asked him to please wrap up the project as we had family from out of town coming in and he sent a crew on the last day with no supplies. The cleaning crew was sent in because his crew made an absolute mess of the whole home (did not cover ANYTHING) and did not seal off the work areas. I DID move the things to the center of the room to the best of my ability but I would think professionals would include this in their project.

I am not sure what "extras" he is referring to as "extra" indicates the base level job was completed. Repairs to the ceilings were in the original estimate and the additional painting was done by his choice (I said many times NOT TO PAINT THE ***** or destroy the wallpaper recently installed) They created extra work for themselves and frankly left the walls looking worse than when they started. They removed things from the walls (they were not supposed to paint) and did not put them back up, resulting in me having to purchase again.

Nick from Five Level Design is very rude, condescending and HE has no concept of time. He would promise to have things completed and then never came through. Not ONE project he worked on was completed. The $750 we kept was a joke as we will have to pay someone much more to fix all of the mistakes made.

Please have the contractor share any of his "after" pictures. I don't know how that would be possible as he did not return to the home on the last day.

We were very patient with him, gave him advances on the payment and were left with an unfinished, unprofessional, and unsafe home. He did not do us any "favors" or "go out of his way" for us.

While I have no ill will toward the customer and understand there were issues that I take blame for and even offered my compensation for, it has been brought to my attention that the said customers mother had been sharing her medical marijuana with my helpers during the project. I was informed of this by my helper ************************* and definitely wouldn't have allowed it. Perhaps it may have contributed to the job delays. To my knowledge the action also isn't legal...
Hopefully all can be made better and we can all move on.
