On July 23, 2022, **** ******************** was called to my house to inspect our propane hot water heater. The night before, carbon monoxide was detected and confirmed by the fire department. The hot water heater was the only equipment burning fuel in the boiler room. Without a thorough inspection, *** ******************** informed us we would need a new hot water heater. He installed a new tank the same day, however, he did not check the type of heater. The new tank was meant to burn natural gas, not the propane from the tanks connected to my house.Over the course of the next week, we learned that there was never an issue with the original hot water heater which was only 7 years old and showed no signs of wear and tear. The carbon monoxide build up was due to a chimney ventilation issue which we had fixed. In the meantime, the new tank started producing a severe odor. We learned that the new tank was the wrong type which did not allow the propane to burn cleanly. Soot was being deposited along our brand-new chimney liner, and as that heats up, produces substantial levels of carbon monoxide and the terrible smell. The fire department was called back. *** ********************'s errors could have easily cost me and my family our lives.When approached about this severe lack of diligence that put my family at far greater risk than the initial issue, *** ******************** did replace the natural gas heater with the appropriate propane heater, however, damage was done. Damage to the chimney, walls of my basement, and stairs occurred. *** ******************** agreed to return payment for the heater ($2843.25) and pay for the damages ($600). He has returned $1000 to date but has since stopped responding to messages.Other issues, including more than 10 drunken phone calls in a day apologizing and altering my payment check without my consent, have been rectified separately, but further demonstrate the lack of professionalism from this business.
