My husband, ****** *******, and I had work done in our home during the month of June, totaling $14,469.28. Most of the work was completed to an acceptable standard, however, the work in our guest bathroom (rarely used) is faulty. The paint began to blister demonstrating obvious water damage. This bathroom was only used approximately 10 times in the period between work completion and problem showing. We attempted to rectify this by going through the proper channels; phone calls, text messages and emails, with numerous employees including owner of company. Most of our contacts were met with no response. On October 10, an employee named Brandon came to our home to view the situation. He took numerous pictures and stated that he would report to George (supervisor) and then contact us. On October 11, Brandon called stating George said it would cost $700 to repair our bathroom and George would be willing to share the cost at $350 for the company and us. My husband asked to speak to George and was told he would call back that day or the next morning. My husband requested that the work be repaired at no cost. On October 12, George called and said that he did not want to repair at no cost. We do not believe that this is good business practice and is in fact, somewhat dishonest. Either the repair should be completed by Patriot Construction or we should receive a refund of the original amount paid for the work that was completed improperly. Either solution is acceptable to us. We hope for a response as soon as possible.Business response

We fulfilled the entire scope of what we were contracted to do. In the bathroom that the homeowner is referring to we were contracted to fix the drywall that was damaged and to paint the walls and casing and crown molding. When the homeowner called to let us know that the paint was bubbling by the shower our Project Manager Brandon went out and took a look at it. The issue is that the tub is pitched towards that wall and water is running down the tub onto that section of the wall. I have attached a picture of the area that was taken from our first site inspection before any contracts were signed or work was performed. After Brandon went out there he showed George our lead Project Manager what was happening and George said that we could install a diverter in that corner to try and keep water away and then fix that area again in the drywall and paint it. Solving the water issue was never in our original contract which I also have attached to this response. The total cost to supply and install the diverter and fix the drywall and paint was $700.00. We offered to split that cost with the homeowner's and only have them pay $350.00. The homeowner said that they did not want to do that and that they would fix it themselves.Customer response

BBB spoke to Jan at business and the following was relayed:
I will have George go out and inspect. The warranty information is included in contract, a limited one year warranty on the workmanship.

Better Business Bureau:
I have reviewed the response made by the business in reference to complaint ID ********, and find that this resolution is satisfactory to me.Unfortunately, it took so long for Patriot Construction to respond to our complaint, that my husband had to redo the grout on the shower himself. Also, the drywall next to the shower dried out before Patriot sent someone to look at the leak. Therefore, this was no longer an issue by the time the company addressed our situation.

We signed our contract with Matt on 12/23/20 to finish our basement. We agreed to do the painting. The work started on 4/12/21 with Dan. Dan delegated much to his inexperienced workers. We saw red flags (specifically for this complaint there are visible drywall seams, areas where the drywall is not level, pit holes in the drywall, visible nail/screw holes). We called Matt on 4/26 and requested he come see the work. He said they would talk with Dan. After still seeing red flags, we reached out to Matt on 4/30, and Patriot sent project manager George over that day. We reached out to Matt on 5/3, and were told Dan had again been informed of our concerns. When Dan returned the following day, he was very disrespectful. After another request, Matt came on 5/10. We asked that Dan did not return and that a new contractor was sent. Matt made a list of things that needed to be fixed. A new contractor came the week of 5/17. After that contractor said he was done, we had to request that Patriot send him back as there were things on the list that were missed, and we still had drywall concerns. We then contacted Jan the president on 6/21 in regards to all of our concerns. The conversation was uncomfortable, and Jan seemed more concerned about who would pay to fix all the concerns we had. Jan, George, and Matt walked through our basement on 6/30 and made an additional list of things to fix. While at this meeting, our drywall concerns were disregarded, despite us pointing out many imperfections. The contractor returned in August. Separate from this, we had multiple other companies give us quotes to complete the painting. Each company shared that significant drywall repairs would need to be completed prior to painting. On 11/1, we told Patriot we were not comfortable making the final payment until the issues with the drywall were properly addressed. We shared the quotes and information that we had received. Without responding, Patriot sent our information to a debt collector.Business response

First and foremost, as the President of the company, I would like to apologize to the *********. Our goal as a company is to always make sure the customer is happy and satisfied with the work done. It seems that we were unable to reach that goal and were unable to make sure they satisfied with the job. With that being said, we did everything they asked of us, completed every punch list, even did work not in the contract for them. Every time they gave us a punch list, we completed it only to be given another one. When the job was completed and we reached out for final payment of balance, they refused. This put them in breach of our contract due to non payment. Once they breached the contract, we sent them to collections to recoup the funds that they owed to us per the contract. Once they received the summons from being put into collections, they sent us a letter looking for compensation. After that we let them know that they breached the contract and owed us the balance. Without final payment we are unable to warranty their work. Once we let them know this again, they reached out to file the complaint seen here. We would be more than happy and willing to warranty any of our workmanship items once their balance is paid in full.Customer response

Thank you for emailing me. I saw this just as I was about to call and ask for your email earlier. After sharing the resolution plan with my husband, we just had a couple of questions for Jan. First, we need to know that the debt collector situation will be resolved. My husbands name is out there with a fee attached to it, and we would like to have something in writing that it was taken care of. I’m not sure how things like that work.Second thing, we would like to get a little more information on Jan’s plan to take care of the drywall issues. He has said multiple times before that he would make things right, but has yet to do so, and it has led us to be weary in trusting that statement from him. If he told you that he will make this right for us, then we are choosing to believe that he will, but we would like to know who he plans to send and what specifically will be taken care of. I realize this might be difficult to do without seeing the basement again, but we will feel more comfortable making the first payment if we have more details.Hopefully this makes sense. We very much appreciate your help with resolving this. Please let me know if you need any clarification.Business response

Good afternoon. I was talking with Jan about this and we have the following:We would like to set up a time to do a walk through with Jan, George and our master painter/drywaller to come up with a finalized list of what they would like to do, make a list and take photos and we'll get this signed and get things scheduled. The collections matter: I've reached out to the company to have their account put on hold and once we have completed things and they have paid, we'll get the collections report removed no problem. I asked the collections company if there was anything they could provide in writing along with us that they would remove the report if original balance was paid.Rachael C*******Administrative AssistantPatriot ConstructionCustomer response
